topswijaya
Dear all, How long is the visa marriage for? After several years staying in Thailand on marriage visa, can you apply permanent residence? or citizenship? Thanks Edited November 10, 2022 by topswijaya
BritManToo
If you're a foreign woman, yes. If you're a foreign man, no.
Boomer6969
Yes you can, if you can show 3 years of continuous employment, at a given level of income. You should also have some Thai language skills.

The initial visa is either for 90 days with a single entry, or 1 year with multiple entries (each being valid for 90 days). When your 90 days is up you can extend for a year(no further exits required and you can stay in country for the whole year). There is no limit to the amount of times you can extend. I'm sure others will be along shortly with more information on the specific requirements for extensions. Even 12 month extensions for a woman married to a Thai man are much easier. They do not need money in the bank unlike a man. As said you will need 3 years continuous extensions and pay income tax in Thailand. 1
Maestro
On your non-O visa, the "Enter before" will be 90 days after the issue date of the visa. In other words, it isvalid for travel to Thailand within 90 days. Edited November 10, 2022 by Maestro fixed a formatting problem

But you also have to report yourself to the immigration police every 90 days, as if you are on probation. In person or on-line. For some, on-line works well but others have found complications. I've been married to a Thai for nearly 32 years, same rules apply no matter what. In contrast, my sister-in-law has gone to live with her Dutch husband in Hungary and has a five year visa, no annual renewal, no 90 day reports. She is welcome there, in Thailand we are tolerated, nothing more. 3

Though as a foreign man you'd still be able to apply but it'll be way harder for a man to successfully obtain citizenship or permanent residence than a foreign woman.
worldexpress
I believe a visa marriage is illegal here, as is in other countries. ????
