Why is the UK struggling more than other countries?

In isolation, a modest slide in the economy of 0.2% over three months might fall into the category of regrettable but unsurprising in the circumstances.

But looking ahead, the Bank of England and others anticipate that this is the first of a run of several quarters marking the start of a lengthy recession. And looking backwards now, it is very concerning that the UK economy remains smaller than just before the pandemic three years ago.

Not only is the UK the only major economy to be shrinking in the three months to September, but it is the only one not to have recovered in full the chunk of the economy lost during the pandemic.

Easy. They stopped making things that people want to buy and went for the "financial" markets, whatever they may be.

Also, they let in loads of people that contribute nothing to the country, but suck the economy like leeches.

 

Wasted north sea oil. They should have been like Norway.

 

Keep throwing money at the NHS instead of making it only about what it was supposed to do. Gordon Brown wasted 6 billion quid on it. Sacking 70% of the managers would be a good start.

All the western countries appear to be having the same problems as far as I can see.

Brilliant, today's problems are because of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown and it is all the past stuff now biting them on the bum.  You do realise the Tories have been in power for 12 years now??  No blame there at all??  Nah, it's all because of stuff that happened before that that they haven't worked out how to fix. Right.  Bad Labour.

How is moving to Green Energy causing problems when Russia’s war has caused supply problems and price hikes to oil?

 

Renewables are a source of energy independent of foreign interference, unless of course some James Bond type baddie manages to switch off the sim, the wind and the tides.

I watched a video of a Swedish company that machines connecting rods for engines and has sales world-wide. They source their forgings from UK, no one in Sweden can supply them.

Hi BMT, Add in a buffoon like Turdo and the sheeple that vote for him..Off subject: I last grew a blueberry auto using coco(same vendor) and EWC/Wesco only as per your advice..it was the best producer so far for me..62 grams dry. Best example is the car industry ..world leaders in the 60s/70s  now nothing ..where as Germany massive ...

Historically best at everything but now more and more quality firms taken over ..

NHS the great 'black hole' ..and like everything that's free it's abused .. and consultants making millions milking the system .. etc ..

A lot of North Sea oil money was used to pay the 3.5 million unemployed in the early 80's. Many people go on about how Mrs Thatcher stuck it to the unions, without recognising that this was also when British industry started to disappear.

(Germany has some of the biggest and stronest unions in the world, at the same time as having some of the biggest and strongest industry in the world).

Indeed. Gordon wasted the money on the NHS, tony wasted it on Iraq, and UK's been in the doodoo ever since.

Tony had 2 huge majorities and could have done a lot for the UK, but blew it by being Bush's poodle.

Err, they could, but it's probably cheaper to source them from elsewhere.

Brexit and COVID19 hit the UK at almost exactly the same time. COVID is estimated to have cost the taxpayer £400 billion, the effects of this will of course all be blamed on Brexit.

Gordon Brown spent £500 billion bailing out the fraud, corruption and greed of The City of London. That's why there was "No money left".????

We've been poorly served by politicians for decades, but if we will insist on humiliating anyone that does serve, is it any wonder only the second rate consider being politicians?

Green energy destabilised the grid, we just need more of it.

Illegal immigration causing problems, just allow all their relatives in.

Funny you mention that. Why is he moaning? Because he wants more migrant labour for his shops. Mass immigration was said to be the biggest single issue in the Brexit debate.
