Previously 90 day insurance was required.

Clearly missed when it was dropped.

The non O marriage did not require insurance.

Sorry to jump on your thread, Maud, but I might have learnt something new from the various replies for my own situation.

 

So... Have I understand this correctly that... a 90 day Non-O for retirement can be obtained in the UK via the online evisa website?  (I has previously thought I could only obtain OA and OX this way)

 

Can that then be extended once in Thailand for a year if can demonstrate 12 months of 65k transfers to a Thai bank?

You can obtain the non O retirement in UK online eVisa.

 

Once in Thailand you can obtain extension retirement.

 

You normally would  need to use money in bank method. 

However you mention that you can show 12 months of transfers so that would be possible. 

 

Read some threads regarding enter visa exempt and obtain the non O retirement in Thailand.

I see lots of threads advising people to come visa exempt or on Tourist visa and then go for Non O and then extend.

 

Each to their own but for me arriving on a Non O (not too difficult now to get from UK at least) and then extending is far easier than going through the extra stage of getting a Non O in Thailand.

 

The only real difference is the financial proof for getting the Non O in the UK. If you can meet this requirement then for me getting a Non O in the UK first is the way to go. If you come visa exempt you need to cover the onward flight details.

 

The E-visa system is a bit clunky but if you go through the system first then pre-prepare the documents / photos required it is pretty easy really if you are comfortable with using a PC / uploading files.

Just another note I flew from Manchester UK with Emirates and wasn't asked for any proof of onward flight, my e-visa that I'd printed out, or any proof of vaccination.At Bangkok  boarding pass, passport and printed out e-visa were required at immigration.

At one point some Thai embassies/consulates were requiring non-O visa applicants to show health insurance coverage to get the non-O visa.  There have been reports in this thread that that is no longer the case.  If that's true, then there's less reason to recommend against the non-O visa obtained outside Thailand.

I would also like that confirmed as insurance requirement for non O retirement (not marriage) was a key reason to suggest better option being enter visa exempt and obtain the non O in Thailand..

No problem, MistyBlue - We come here for help and for those with knowledge to help others.  I have my way forward I think, and have started the visa application process.

As others have said, the e-visa website is clunky and not at all intuitive, so if you go down that route, I suggest a cup of tea and yoga to get through it!  ????

I can confirm based on (a) my own application using an insurance schedule page that showed no cover details + (b) friends who obtained their visa using the upload of a page saying 'not required for this visa'

 

I confirm this if for Non-O Retirement 90 day single entry.

 

If you want it from the horse's mouth you can email the London Embassy (address on website) and ask which is what one of my friends did and got the reply saying Insurance was not required.

 

Caveat - This is for the London UK embassy, I obviously don't know about other countries.
