Hotel maids nabbed for allegedly sneaking into tourist’s room to steal valuables

Two Pattaya hotel maids were apprehended by police on Tuesday after they allegedly used a universal keycard to enter a tourist’s room to steal gold jewelry and cash worth 100,000 baht-over five years ago.

 

Pol. Col. Boonlue Phadungtin arrested 44-year-old suspect, Mrs. Aranya (last name withheld by police), under an arrest warrant No.1/2018 issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court on January 9th, 2018.

 

Aranya was arrested for committing a joint burglary and failing to report herself to the court, according to Pol. Col. Boonlue. Her 36-year-old accomplice Ms. Pratchalee was also arrested for allegedly partnering with Aranya to commit a burglary. Pratchalee was previously arrested under an arrest warrant issued on October 10th, 2017.

Or is only for murderers?

Ive never had stuff stolen. Never been bashed. Never been murdered.

 

Been abused once by a Thai. Get abused daily in Oz on the roads by bad drivers in the wrong.

I kind of want to know if the tourist was a foreigner or a Thai, this missing piece of information seems very relevant to me but it's not mentioned.

That's not fair. an hotel employee has to be a trusted soul, someone to who you can leave your room and its contents without fear of theft. My proviso is that money and valuables should be locked away if possible or otherwise secreted. Temptation is a given - how it's coped with is the measure of the trustworthiness of the employee.

Was expecting to read on that the maids were "from a neighbouring country" but no, it seems they are Thai. 

A few words of warning; never, ever, leave cash in a hotel room safety box. Not only do most hotel staff have access to the room, many also know the admin/overide codes to open the room safe box. Recently checked into a hotel and the safety box was already locked. Told the front desk and staff member came and opened the box using number from memory. I only ever leave laptop and passport in a box. Still a risk but less so than losing notes of cash.

A subsequent crime of failing to report to court too. 

Actually pleasing to see this was pursued....it would have been dropped in many countries.

Well I do and have so far had only a single minor instance in many years.....  I don't think taking all my cash, cards and passport out with me is a good solution.

It might be beneficial to accidently lock the safe and see how easy it is for them to come open it in front of you....! One time I did this and it was a right rigmarole!

Certainly wouldn't be the first time.

I had valuables removed from the case while it was in baggage storage. 

No CCTV.

 

Hotel and police not interested.

When I see people leave there doors open and a real community spirit and if there is one bad dishonest person in our town the people are on to it straight away. The honesty here makes me feel very blessed to live here however that doesn't distract that in the more tourist area the dishonest are more likely to be. If you're stupid enough to leave high valuables in your room then it won't end well.

When I travel , I always have RFID wallet and passport cover wallets , that way even if they are locked in your safe they can’t use skimming devices whilst in the room or even just outside the door !

just because someone is poor doesn't give them the right to steal from your room.

One of this, IMHO, totally useless news stories which could end with: Similar events happen every day probably thousands of times all over the world.

 

And then the speculation about the nationality of the victim.

And the question of the nationality of the accused.

And why did anybody steel lots of money and valuables?

And why did anybody leave money and valuables accessible to others?

And why did they bring money and valuables to Thailand at all?

 

We still need the question why they came to Pattaya at all, they obviously must be sex tourist and deserve to be victims.
