Former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account has been reinstated on the platform.

The account, which Twitter banned following the January 6 attack on the Capitol, was restored after Twitter CEO Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter on Friday night asking the platform’s users if Trump should be reinstated.

“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk tweeted Saturday night.

Not that I like Trump. Not at all. But where is the problem?! In a democracy everyone can decide which tweets he wants to read. Derrick Johnson has a very strange understanding of democracy...

I read faster, are they going to warn me not to read hate speech? Are the victims of that hate speech meant to ignore it?

 

My prediction is that Musk will buy Truth Social and bury it in order to poach it's tech staff and resolve any conflict Trump has over his twitter account.

Apparently Trump has a contract with Trump Social that would prevent him making posts on Twitter.

 

But based on past performance Trump will probably ignore the contract and any litigation that may come from it.

This just isn't going to fly with many advertisers who know they will be fingered by liberals. There aren't enough pillows in the world to keep the revenue going.

 

He explained that a tweet deemed to be “negative” or to include “hate” would be allowed on the site but would be visible only to users who specifically searched for it. Such tweets also would be “demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter,” Musk said.

He wasn't referring to someone reading a tweet, that's a whole different ball game. He was referring to the implications that this poll confirmed Musk's decision to reinstate Trump on the twitter platform, evidenced by him doing just that as soon as he closed the poll. His reference was clearly:

Surely you know twitter polls are open for the whole world to vote on, you know that even according to Musk most of his followers are bots, you know that only a tiny proportion of twitter users are verified, anyone can open an account with no ID.

 

He was correct, it was a garbage vote and not democratic

My guess would be a move out of desperation.

I don't agree with giving his lies a platform.

It's fair that the poll was international as twitter's audience is but that just makes the result less believable.

Seeing as his old Tweets are reinstated, any concerned advertizer can scroll through and quickly determine Trump did NOT attempt a coup and use his Twitter account to facilitate.

 Perhaps some of the Jan6th experts can point out the awful Tweets that forced Twiiter to censor a sitting President while allowing the taliban account to run?

That's your opinion. Advertiser's won't care if the election was stolen or not, they will look at their corporate reputation. GM suspended advertising on the platform moments after Musk bought it. Watch what happens now.

IMO it doesn't really matter, with his actions since buying Twitter it looks like Musk is going to consign it to oblivion anyway. Staff are deserting in droves, probably advertisers will too.

 

The world is probably anesthetized to Trump's tweets, except for his following of knuckle-draggers. Perhaps Musk should stick to his knitting, IIRC Henry Ford lost millions on Brazilian plantations.

Americans are strange people. They allow Trump to be President with tremendous military and economic power. But they don't allow him to post on Twitter. Again - I am not a "friend" of him but this is hard to understand...

 

If he is not capable of using Twitter in a normal way why was he ever allowed to be President???

 

Will look out of the window to check if a "democratic" missile is on its way to me already...

If Musk paid $1 for Truth Social I think that would be a step too far for many Twitter users. Benefitting someone who attempted to overturn democratic elections and giving them a bigger mouthpiece. I don't mind him having access to Twitter but there was a fairly compelling argument the other way around January 6 2020.
