If you stay in Pattaya/Jomtien the air quality is going to be quite reasonable most of the time. If you stay in Bangkok the air quality next to main roads is dreadful and it's something to avoid. I'm just in the habit of avoiding it where possible. That being said you don't have to walk in a straight line along Rama I. You could walk through Siam Square or alternatively enter Siam Paragon, connect through Siam World, then get on the skywalk.
November 28, 20223 yr Author Oh, OK. I've been in places in Thailand where Google maps shows a walking route that turns out to be on a super highway with vehicles flying by you at high speed LOL. Not the most pleasant walk!

On a trip between Pattaya and Ekamai the conductor came and told off an Indian guy who had been yelling into his phone for the first 20 minutes of the trip....imagine being sat next to that!

That's why a 5 minute walk takes 9 minutes, plus the climb on the stairs to make one sweaty. Easier to just wait for next train to MBK.
