webfact
BANGKOK, Nov 21 (TNA) – COVID-19 cases worldwide are increasing in winter and the public health minister urged at-risk people to receive vaccination. Deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was concerned about increasing COVID-19 cases in many countries because the virus spread faster in winter, disease control measures were eased worldwide and Thailand was welcoming visitors from every country. The health minister urged elderly people and those with underlying illnesses to receive vaccine booster jabs, she said. edwinchester
I'd wager that the actual number of cases is alot higher than reported as personally know several people who have tested positive recently. They were all vaccinated and reported that symptoms were not bad, similar to a cold.
webfact
COVID infections expected to increase during cold season, but reduce in February COVID-19 infections are expected to rise with the arrival of cold season, as more group activities are held and more people travel, but the infection rate will drop in February as the dry season begins, according to Dr. Yong Poovorawan, chief of the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. He said, however, that the infection rate will not be as high as during the rainy season, adding that most cases will not be serious either, as the majority of the people have developed a level of immunity, except for people suffering from chronic kidney disease and the so-called “608” group, which includes those over 60, and those suffering from underlying diseases. In his Facebook post today (Monday), Dr. Yong said there is no evidence to indicate that the latest mutations of the COVID-19 virus have increased the severity of symptoms, but they can cause reinfection. Popular Post jcmj
It’s freaking flu season. Not Covid season. It seems to me that the typical flu or strep throat is now considered Covid. Get on with your lives and with any illness, if it gets really bad then go see a doctor. Common sense. 5 2
AgentSmith
Not according to the numbers in Europe. Covid is in decline there and the threat is over according to the specialists. Vaccination is still recommended but obviously no masks required. Edited November 22, 2022 by AgentSmith

We're just recovering from it and we rate the experience far far worse than a cold but I suppose everyones mileage will vary. Our 19 year old niece rated it as a severe cold but the older ones did not. And anyone needing antivirals, as we did, has to get them through the hospitals which is where the case loads are recorded before being recorded centrally.. Complete nonsence, masking is very much needed to combat the influx of unmasked carriers. we caught it last week for the first time in 3.5 years. Flue and strep throat are NOT considered covid, they are different things, both of which carry very different risks and require different treatment. Plus there are two flu season in Thailand, one that coincides with the rainy season and one that coincides with winter. One originates with the flu virus from Austral/Asia, the other from the West. Flue is therefore a year round problem in Thailand but with periods of peak activity.

Hopefully you're over covid now and wasn't trying to diminish your symptoms in any way. All the people we know who've had it recently are young and been vaccinated so guess that helped for them. Nurse friend at the local small hospital also told us cases are on the rise as is the number they're sending to the large hospital for further treatment. Personally I'm still being very careful as luckily avoided covid so far and don't want it at 63 years old either.

I'm likely to remain wearing a mask forever or until they come up with preventative treatments that are effective, I'm 72. I was the most at risk because of age and pre-existing conditions yet I am the fittest with a good BMI and healthy diet. Those things showed up when the five of us compared severity, I win hands down, only the 19 year old beat me.

Not sure the comment you responded to stating covid is in decline and 'no masks required' really constitutes misinformation. OK- it's not completely accurate. You are right, a couple of European countries still require masks on public transport, including Germany - but most don't. Germany doesn't require masks on flights. Healthcare settings it is more commonly required. All over Europe masking is uncommon , nothing like Thailand. Covid is in decline in Germany ( and in general in Europe) , going into (proper) winter, despite very little masking in general. Germanys 7 day case average is now the lowest it's been in 2022, since Omicron. Contrast that to Japan, which is experiencing rising case averages and high numbers despite universal masking. At the population level , mass masking just doesn't appear to affect these waves. Population level immunity via vaccination and previous infection makes the difference, mass masking doesn't.
