Thailand’s Narcotics Control Board to discuss proposal by cannabis opponents to recriminalize the plant today, 22 Nov

Thailand - Thai Public Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today to the Thai media that in his opinion cannabis cannot be reverted back into an illegal narcotic drug and he is not overly concerned with a proposal by cannabis opponents to try to ban the plant entirely again.

 

Monday, (November 21^st) Mr. Anutin, the main figure behind cannabis being originally decriminalized in Thailand in June, revealed to the press his thoughts about the meeting of Thailand’s Narcotics Control Board tomorrow (November 22^nd).

 

Mr. Anutin said, “There will be two issues which opponents of the legislation of cannabis who are suing me will pursue, the first being a proposal to the Narcotics Control Board to revert cannabis to an illegal narcotic, which would immediately criminalize possession, sales, and cultivation. The second issue will be about the Notification of the Public Health on Controlled Herbs in general and overall regulations around the plant (cannabis).”

 

When Anutin was asked by the Associated Thai Press if the Narcotics Control Board will turn cannabis back into an illegal drug Mr. Anutin said, “If you ask me I have to say it cannot be turned into an illegal drug again. There are too many businesses, farmers, consumers, medical patients, doctors, and more relying on the plant for their health and their income.”

While I could care less what happens to Anutin I do care about the people and their loss’s if it reverts back. They seem to forget alcohol has caused many accidents and hospitalizations when people go overboard. Might as well add that to the list.

But what is bad is many Thais have spent lots of money on businesses selling the stuff, what will happen to them?

Lettuce, cabbage, broccoli or spinach.....it still needs to be banned due to the societal problems it causes.

Hard to believe some would rather have people go to prison... for something less harmful than tobacco or alcohol. I'd wager the latter causes a lot more societal problems than weed. Live and let live!

As far as I know the Narcotics Board have no right to make laws.

Just another faceless Thai group that only want attention, "Look at me, look how important I am"

They are "meeting to discuss".

 

This step follows the formation of a committee in the Thai government operating flow chart.

 

After the "discussion" the NCB may comment on their discussions.

 

No one, other than a "Court" makes decisions, and even those are often "suggestions".

 

Re-criminalizing Cannabis will require much more effort than allowing it to maintain its current status.
