Siam Rath followed up earlier reports about an outbreak of meningococcal meningitis at a drug rehabilitation school in Krabi, southern Thailand.

Six people were confirmed infected one of whom had subsequently died.

An investigation is underway but no more cases have been reported after the outbreak began last weekend in Klong Tom district.

Contacts are being traced.

Meningococcal disease causes meningitis and sepsis, an even more damaging outcome.

Wikipedia further states that the disease has a high mortality rate if untreated.
