Daily News Thai Caption: Paid 180,000 baht

 

Daily News reported that a motorist in southern Thailand is facing a massive bill after going into two lampposts.

 

For these lampposts in the downtown area of Hat Yai, Soongkhla, on Petchkasem road outbound are not any old posts.

They are topped with golden "Manorah's" - mythical creatures from southern Thai legend.

 

Two were toppled after the SUV hit them in the night.

They are part of a 33 million baht project.

 

The accident that happened about midnight will now cost the driver 90,000 baht each for a total bill of 180,000 for repairs.

 

Fortunately no one was seriously hurt.

Of course, the driver won't pay this ludicrous bill......!

But then he could counter claim for the useless way safety guard rails have been installed.......a cyclist would likely do similar damage!

I thought things like this is why 1st class insurance is taken out.

Those fancy lampposts are all over Thailand in one form or another. A real brown envelope filler if ever there was one.

It's a nit, but a Menorah is indeed a Jewish candelabra, but generally used for Hanukah (coincidentally, this Sunday evening).  Happy holiday.
