More than 8.1 million Thais are poor, including 4.4 million living below the poverty line, according to the latest report by The Office of the National Economics and Social Development Council (NESDC).

Tourism minister says extended nightlife hours in Phuket limited to Bangla Road

Thailand’s tourism minister says if an extension to nightlife operating hours is approved for Phuket, it’s likely it will only apply to Bangla Road in Patong. In fact it’s probably the only area in Thailand being considered for 4am closing times at the moment.

22-year-old, Odhrán Joseph O’Neill from County Armagh in Ireland. His remains were recovered 15 metres below his kayak on Sunday morning.

“There weren’t enough life vests on board” – latest in the search for missing crew

An air and sea search for the 30 missing crew (some media report up to 33) of the HMS Sukhothai frigate continues. One crew member was found and rescued yesterday but fears remain for the welfare of the remainder of the missing crew. It was also revealed this morning by a spokesperson for the Navy that there were weren’t sufficient life vests available for all crew on the ill fated vessel.

Tourists flying out of Koh Samui as ferry services remain suspended due to storms

Ferry services from Koh Samui are still suspended due to stormy conditions in the Gulf of Thailand. Surat Thani Governor, Wichawut Jinto says services from Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao are also not operating at the moment, due to the poor weather conditions, stranding travellers on the Gulf islands.
