President Joe Biden is heading to the US-Mexico border on Sunday on the heels of major policy announcements and following relentless calls from Republicans who believe the trip is overdue.

The trip to the border – the first for Biden since he took office – comes as the administration wrestles with a growing number of migrants, overwhelming federal and local resources. Republicans, some border-district Democrats in Congress and even Democratic mayors have criticized Biden for failing to address record levels of border crossings.

It’s about the best he can do on account of the republicans unwillingness to work on immigration reform

I cannot work up much hope as immigration has a way of getting, "kicked down the road" for decades now. Still, the vast majority do seem to recognize a major overhaul is needed to be addressed by Congress. OK, Republican Party, you hold the majority in the US House of Representatives and there is reason to hope that the US Senate recognizes immigration is an area where there is a bi-partisan desire to address the issue. So ... let's see ... oh, I acknowledge the Republican radicals in the House will be looking to make political investigation points rather than proposing legislation. The only hope there is a centralist bi-partisan House coalition to out vote the radicals.

It's good biden is finally waking up. Too bad he didn't do more when he began his presidency instead of waiting 2 yrs and now trying to shore up the political damage.

In the US, immigration legislation is needed to be passed by both houses of Congress. That is why nothing meaningful has been addressed. Neither political party has had any idea as to how to address the issue.

So those immgrants are not fleeing political persecution, political instability, rampant violence, severe economic hardship amd extreme weather but flee because Joe Biden off-the-cuff interview in English. Good lord, get a grib.

His words opened the flood gate and then for 2 yrs he kept silent. DHS idiot says the border is secure.

They are not immigrants, illegals mostly, migrants some.

On the contrary. They all know what to do - put a functional worker visa in place. It's  too emotional an issue to settle. This keeps everyone barking at each other, distracting them while the government is robbing them blind.

Many are refugees, particularly from Guatemala. I'm still waiting for Mexico to pay for the wall.

Amazing the complaining the Dem cities are doing over a bus load of these people as opposed the millions near the border and the towns struggling there. Should bus every last one of them to Dem cities

Is someone going to tell Biden he's at the border? So where's VP Harris? She should be with him to see the great job that she has done.

Expecting much will be achieved at the North America Leaders Summit. Meeting leaders in a cordial atmosphere instead of making ridiculous claims that Mexico will pay for the wall. Where are the Republicans on this.
