What are the franchisees going to say, when caught red handed? Yes, we did it. Yes, we do it all the time?    If course they will deny it. They deny everything. They are such innocents.

But then they would get caught, silly!

Deny all you want, it doesn't matter. Your credibility is shot and the blame for that is entirely yours.

They don't give a F about their credibility as long as they get their money

Until this banana republic starts actually prosecuting such actions it will continue as usual

It isn't a republic. I'll you decide what the best designation should be.

She had 27K in her purse? If she withdrew money at an ATM then there'd be some CCTV from the ATM. Doesn't prove much but would lend credence to her version of what went on.

deleted recordings can often be recovered if done within a day or two . On my device there’s a 'recently deleted" section. Unless the police are aware and make them permanently delete from within that section ..?

Correct, on my device its there for 30 days, but not all phones are the same?

The fact they were ordered to delete the video is incriminating in itself, in other countries the police can't do that, however there were around 7 cops there, i would imagine they felt scared <deleted>less?

not a good way to hit on a hottie

Whether or not these were genuine Thai police, it is bad for Thailand's image. No reason for the Taiwanese lady to have made up this story.

But??? I thought they would admit!

What is interesting is the reference to e-cigarettes which were found in her bag. E-cigarettes are illegal in Thailand as is vaping since 2014 - which I understand carries a THB 30,000 fine and up to 10 years in jail .... of course smoking pot is legal. An interesting news report here of a French woman who chose to go to court vs pay a THB 40k demand in Phuket in 2019; https://www.thephuketnews.com/frenchwoman-deported-for-vaping-70535.php She elected to go to court and was fined a small amount and then deported.

Seems strange that Ms An claims all the fuss was about a valid visa shakedown and avoids the e-cigarettes discussion..... which she was let off with a warning.

Vaping is bad for your health ..... and illegal.

"........the seven policemen at a checkpoint where she and her friends were stopped denied the extortion allegations"

Well, they're not likely to admit it are they - especially the mood that the PM is in at the moment with regard to "Thailand's reputation being damaged"!!!

I know it's a "compo" photo, but it looks like the American drill sergeant with one of his recruits:-

"I told you before, don't you DARE look at me!"

Initial police response was to pretend they didn’t have a roadblock in that area at that time.

If there’s a positive side to the story, it’s that her “celebrity” status allows her to shine a brighter spotlight on these corrupt jackals than the average shakedown survivor could command.

Just pass the case onto the National Anti-Corruption Commission - pause for laughter.

Thank god, that's settled it.

Who wants an iced coffee in a bag and a lobotomy?

Is it possible that this was some sort of retaliation from RTP for the scenario where they were outed about off-hours escorting duties?  Maybe not the same person but something to deliver a message....?

The police have given the best story they came up with. Hot air. Any interrogations should be carried out under camera at the police station.

Why should interrogations be filmed?

Nonsense.

Annoys me how the Chinese have English names. I don't have a Thai name and it would be silly if I did.

If the RTP are involved, then the other party is automatically the one with the more credible story. How many times a month are they caught blatantly lying about (insert incident)?

A similar case was documented in Phuket this week also involving e-cigarettes (the banning of which in itself is a high end scam by the biggest criminal organization in the country, the Prayut government).

Thank god Herr General cleaned up the RTP as he promised 8 years back.

Each press story is different, changing over time in a very typical thai fashion involving police and people in authority.

some report she was openly vaping.

if such, most probably she was not aware of ban of vaping. It's a very questionable law, likely pushed by tabacco industry (which I would imagine is highly monopolistic, similar to alcohol brewing and licesing). She be repealed.

thai people are vaping openly everywhere, police don't bother them at all.
so she was singled out because she looked as a foreigner, another xenophobic act which originates from the very top of ruling class.

the most she should be given a warning.

as to her visa, some reported that she produced her passport (which is strange as only a very small minority carry any documents on their nights out). Possibly she had a copy on her smartphone and cops suspected fake, as they might be not much familiar with visa on arrival.

likely the prime minister will, once again, clear this story by his special power as a head of some police commission (in a fashion different to koh tao double murder in 2014, when he accused victims of provoking murder).

Thankfully most of the world disagrees with you here. Please try to keep up.

They just put more oil on flames.
Despite some top immigration commander trying to whitewash this escorting enterprise, prayuth stepped in with an investigation and punishment. He has to act now before incoming elections. Back to normal impunity after he secures his post for another 14 uears.

Are you from the USA? Woke culture, although an oxymoron, is spreading but nowhere near all the world.

She is a taiwanese actress. Taiwan is much more westernised than mainland. Look at first names in hong kong. Probably also more westernised, than thailand.
As with artists, they have such habit, if perform internationally or have some international following.
Very many young generation thai do have english nickname. More likely in bangkok and large cities.

you are deflecting discussion trying to black name her and trying to defend thai police

No they don't. Most Chinese have their Chinese name and an English name. They are often silly old-fashioned names like Bartholomew, or Justin, probably given by their Mickey Mouse ear wearing English teachers.

Thais have a nickname, which can be anything. Granted, often English loan words like 'Pick-up' or 'Porshe'

You are using a woke tactic here. What is wrong with defending Thai police here?

Police deny extorting money

well they would wonld'nt they

News flash an honest taxi driver has arrived with 28,000bt a 1,000 more than she was rinsed for in this misunderstanding ????

Taiwan? No such country says CCP. So I guess police just corrected a mistake made at immigration counter and charged a small fee ????

Interesting point you make there. Does Thailand recognise Taiwan as an independent state or consider it part of China?

Why would the Taiwanese lady bother making up such an allegation? The answer is that her allegation is most likely true. Do the police target drunken foreigners for a shakedown? The answer is most likely yes, they will target anyone they think has money, is vulnerable (e.g. no connections/influence in Thailand, drunk, technically breaking some law etc.) and/or in the wrong place at the wrong time.
