Police officers providing escort service to Chinese tourists face criminal probe

A committee has been set up to consider disciplinary and criminal action against four Thai police officers who are accused of providing vehicle escort services to Chinese tourists, from Suvarnabhumi airport to their hotels in Bangkok.

 

Pol Maj-Gen Archayon Kraithong, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, said on Sunday that the national police chief, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, issued an order on Friday for the appointment of a panel to consider what action should be taken against the police officers for gross misconduct, after a fact-finding committee discovered that the four officers used their private cars, illegally equipped by sirens and painted in police livery, to provide escorts to Chinese tourists.

 

The four officers have already been relieved of duty in the tourist and traffic police and have been moved to the operations centre of the Royal Thai Police, pending the outcome of the disciplinary probe.

The stupid police are acting as though this is a one off event that's never happened before. 

It's been a standard practice for years...with agents and immigration at the forefront.

But the cops insist on digging a deeper hole...as they do!

Is this just standard Thai headline inaccuracy or indication of many Chinese going to several cities?

There are uniformed police officers working in gold shops in their off-duty hours, and I am sure they have other part-time jobs. Working for extra cash is much better than taking 200 baht off a poor motorcyclist. I don't understand why providing a motorcycle escort service is that much different. They ought to be congratulated for their creativity in providing a much sought-after service.

They are using public resources for the purpose of a private enterprise, which is theft!  Abuse of the law should be a very big no, no, but hey ho TIT!

We see these reports of corrupt cops all the time, but the worst that happens is they get moved to 'inactive' posts?

Maybe a few will get thrown under the bus.

But will be business as usual for most others.

And think people have to cheat to pass the police exam.....it must be really difficult, eh?

Why not fire these people instantly....why are they still drawing a salary? 

If it is against the law to fire such people, then change the law. Time is running out on Thailand's ability to reduce corruption to any sort of reasonable level. Did Prayut vow to eradicate corruption? Isn't that what the coup was all about?

Illegally painting and outfitting private cars as police vehicles? THAT'S the buried lead here.

Why? They were very probably just doing what they were told. This is not a one off infact its well established.
