Thai Rath reported on a case in Phunphin district of Surat Thani in which a wealthy rubber contractor and owner of a fishing lake was shot.

The incident happened at 3 am yesterday in Soi Hua Sai 1 Moo 4 in the Tha Rong Chang sub-district.

Police found bloodstains that began on the concrete road and led to outside the home of Somrak Sangkhorn, 43.

Relatives had got him to Rong Chang Hospital but he died from a single gunshot wound to the torso.

Evidence pointed to the deceased having arrived to recover a debt from Watcharkorn Thipbanphot (given the ages 27 and 32 in the Thai Rath story) a man also known as Mart.

He is a cousin of people inside the house where he was staying.

At 3pm yesterday Suraporn Thipbanphot, 59, a relative took the suspect who had fled the scene into the Phunphin police along with a 9mm gun and bullets.

Mart admitted to using the gun  but he claimed self-defence. He claimed that it was after midnight in the house and he heard the sound of an intruder.

He yelled out for the intruder to stop but he kept coming. So he used his weapon and shot him.

He was detained on muder and weapons charges.

With no mention of blood in the suspect's house it appears his claim of self defence may be hard to prove.

This is a strange one.  Who goes debt collecting in the middle of the night?  Looks like a CZ pistol or clone but the cartridges look a bit strange.  Not short like a 9mm.  Maybe .38 Super?

Could well be.  Somewhat poorly written article (or translation) I think.

I bet he didn't think of that one.

Illegal killing of a rubber contractor could mean he's facing a long stretch.

Very true but was the victim not armed? 'coz that's normal for debt collectors to do here.
