Thai Rath reported on a tragedy at a funeral being held for an old man when an undertaker was crushed by falling masonry from the chimney of a temple crematorium.

It was caused by a gas leak that exploded when the undertaker started to light the fire.

Thoeng police in Thoeng district of Chiang Rai and rescue services were called to the temple of Wat Bun Nak in Ban Bun Nak Pattana yesterday at 3pm.

They found piles of masonry from a collapsed chimney that had fallen on undertaker Somkhit Kaewnuan, 54, a man from Ngao sub-district.

Several hundred mourners were at the funeral of Kaew, 83, who had died of old age. Most were well away from the crematorium when it exploded.

Six close relatives of the deceased were slightly hurt in the blast caused by a gas leak. They had been standing close to the crematorium.

A local phu yai ban told the media that the crematorium was built in 2005/6 and up until a couple of years ago they used kindling and charcoal as fuel.

Then they switched to gas.

"Several hundred mourners were at the funeral of Kaew, 83, who had died of old age."

"...died of old age."

What exactly is meant by that?

Maybe it's time to dump that expression in favor of specific terms.
