An army cadet and a master sergeant were killed when the light tank in which they were travelling overturned in during a joint exercise being held in Lop Buri province today (Tuesday).

Initial reports indicate that Cadet Puwanai Kamlungdee and MSgt Sa-nga were thrown out of the Scorpion light tank as the driver tried to avoid a collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction on a dirt road in the exercise field.

The two injured men were immediately rushed to the Ananda Mahidol Hospital, but were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Scorpions are fast - 80kph plus. They will roll if you try to corner or swerve at that speed. The 75mm gun in the turret is mounted relatively high up in a light (aluminium) vehicle which doesn't help.

That is one of the reasons why you should  keep your body inside the vehicle ( head only out of the hatch) and wear an AFV crewman's helmet. If they were thrown out I wouldn't mind betting that they were standing up on the seats, top halves of their bodies out of the turret.
