Daily News Thai Caption: Dramatic moment revealed

Daily News went with local officials to the home of a couple in Tak, NW Thailand, who had been attacked by a swarm of honey bees or Pheung Luang that are believed to have come out of a national park in the area of the Mae Ping river.

Pruan, 73, and his wife Saisuda, 53, who suffers from a condition known as hemiplegia or paralysis on one side told of their "miracle escape".

They are residents of Mo Khon sub-district of Ban Tak district.

Pruan said that he was taking his wife for a walk, part of her physiotherapy regime when a swarm of 10,000 bees attacked them as they were resting under a mango tree.

He jumped into the Ping river and surfaced some distance away and ran 500 meters to get help.

When rescue arrived they helped him get to hospital then doubled back to get his wife. Pruan feared that she would be dead.

Saisuda said that she was stung 500-600 times on the face, legs and arms mostly.

Due to her handicap she was unable to help herself escape the onslaught and had resigned herself to her fate.

But then the rescue foundation arrived and got her to Tak Hospital where she was given meds and stayed for many days.

Doctors removed the more than 500 stings one by one.

She thanked the rescue services and the local authorities for their help and care in ensuring her and her husband's survival from the horrific attack.

The poor Woman, that must've been awful...

Yep, it's the season for bees to move.

These arrived last week right by my front gate, hung around for a day here at head height, then moved up higher into the tree where they are happily constructing a large comb. Not sure what the old folk did to rile them up, ours are very calm and placid.
