Phan Thong police and rescue services were called at 10.40 pm last night to what Thai Rath called a well known cake company's factory in Muang district of Chonburi after a gas explosion injured 4 people.

Kittaya, 24, had 80% burns on her body and Janree, a 30 year old Cambodian, also had severe burns.

Sorm, 40, a Cambodian, and 18 year old Bunjan had minor injuries. All were taken to hospital.

600 employees were milling around outside when the authorities arrived. The company employs 50 Thais and 600 Cambodians.

Staff said that gas used for making cake filling had exploded.

Factory security prevented police and other officials gaining access saying it was too dangerous.

They said there was no fire just a gas explosion though smoke could be seen rising from the factory.

Police are investigating.

Gas or flour explosion?

I use to work in a cake factory (Greens Portslade) an they were always concerned about the risk of flash fire/explosion due to flour particles in the air.

“gas used for making the cake filling” whatever that means.  Perhaps a gas fired cooker or oven ?

Since only 2 people seriously affected, it sound pretty small in size.

"The company employs 50 Thais and 600 Cambodians."

It is lucky that there are so many highly-skilled Cambodians ready to fill the highly-skilled jobs in the cake factory. It would be terrible if Thai business are forced to employ Farang in these highly skilled jobs because they would be taking employment away from Thai  people.
