Cuadrado Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Went back to my home country, obtained the right visa and just arrived yesterday in Bangkok. Booked using a chat application an apartment with a deposit of 2500 baht, but once here noone show up to pick me up as agreed. What action I can take or what you will do if this happen to you? Quote
Popular Post BritManToo Posted March 13, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 13, 2023 1. Never pay up front. 2. Get the bus or train to town. Be thankful you only paid 2,500bht! Happened to me when I used Booking.com. 9 Quote

bkk6060 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 $70 bucks lost. Take one less night out and forget about it. Easy to find another place. 2 Quote
KhunLA Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Lesson learned. As BM2 stated ... good advice. Quote

NanLaew Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 As other members have already offered, write it off, ie. forget about the lost booking or scam and forget about any redress as well. The police won't lift a finger, more so if you can't give a name, contact or address. As other members have offered, airbnb will give you plenty of options for a cheaper stay than a hotel while you find something more suitable. Even the regular hotel booking sites will probably find you somewhere cheaper if you go for 2-star digs. 1 Quote

Sorry, but if it were me, I'd never have booked accommodation through someone I did not know and have no other means of contacting except via a chat app. I think that's where you went wrong and you should now just write it off and put it down to experience. 2 3 Quote
biervoormij Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 The biggest thing I would do is try and learn from my mistake and not repeat it in the future. I have made a lot of mistakes in my travels and try to learn from them. I try to acknowledge my mistake and move forward. You will not get a lot out of beating yourself up; rehashing the mistake or trying to get your money back. Accept your loss and find a place that fulfills your needs and I hope you have better luck in the rest of your time in Thailand. 1 Quote

tomazbodner Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 I would have pulled out Agoda, check for hotels by the airport link line, book hotel last minute, go there, then proceed to demand the deposit back and stop making accommodation bookings via chats with strangers. There are much more reliable options to book a place, you know! Imagine you got picked up by some serial killer and disposed of on the way to accommodation. So it could have been a lot worse. Take it as a lesson and move on. 1 Quote

So you seem to be fixated on this. There is not a person here that has not been scammed at one point or another. The simple solution is to get over it. put your big boy pants on and get on with your holiday. The amount of time you will spend trying to get something from nothing is going to ruin your holiday time. First, you do not know if the name you have is real, you do not know if the phone number is real or a burner, and you do not know where this place was supposed to be. What are the police supposed to do? In Canada they would simply say ok we will file a report and if anything turns up we will let you know. Then it would go in the tourist got scammed pile. Yo obviously came here for a holiday the suggestion here is GET OVER IT GET DRUNK GET LAID HAVE FUN. after get over it the order for the rest is up to you. 3 Quote

I'm guessing you sent cash via Western Union to a dude on Facebook? Nothing you can do. Next time book with an established booking site like Booking.com or Agoda where you have some recourse, and use a credit card. And whatever you do, don't make agreements with the renter outside of the booking site. 2 1 Quote

You live here now (long term visa?) and have a Thai bank account which you used to transfer 2500 baht to some guy on the Facebooks? Or maybe deposited cash into some guy's account either at a teller or ATM? 1 Quote
