onthedarkside Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Up to seven times the global average Over the past 20 years the temperature in the northeastern part of Svalbard has increased by five degrees Celsius. “The northern Barents Sea region is warming at a rate that is 2 to 2½ times as fast as the average temperature increase in the Arctic, and 5 to 7 times the global average,” says Isaksen, the results show the highest temperature increase observed so far, no other place on the planet seems to be warming faster than the northern Barents Sea. More extreme weather The exceptional warming can lead to more extreme weather in North America and Europe, and as far away as Asia. https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/node/10998
