Daily News Thai Caption: A monk did warn him

Daily News reported from the district of Song Phee Nong in Suphanburi after Thung Khok police and rescue services were called to a sugar cane field where a man was found dead.

Nirut, 46, originally from Kanchanaburi, had been dead about six hours. He had been foaming at the mouth. Three bottles were found near the shirtless body. The victim's bag was in a Honda bike's front basket.

There was no sign of a struggle or foul play.

Tong, 70, said he had seen Nirut boozing but left him to it as he was not causing any trouble. He saw him lying down.

But later when he still saw him lying down he went to investigate, found him dead and raised the alarm.

His mother at the scene said that her son was a driver of sugar cane trucks.

He had been warned by a monk and a fortune teller that he was about to suffer serious trouble and he should immediately ordain into the monkhood.

Only that would assuage the bad luck. Nirut took the warnings to heart and prepared to become a monk for a short period.

He planned to ordain today, Wednesday. He had shaved his head and told his employer that he was taking time off and borrowed some money.

He also prepared his robes and other religious paraphernalia.

His mum said that at 3 am she received a knock on the door and imagined that her son was home.

But when she opened the door there was no one there.

Only in the morning was she told that he was dead.

The police think Nirut died from an existing condition and things were made worse by the hot weather.

An autopsy was ordered.

Probably over dosed on something due to the nasty predictions, self fulfilling.
