Popular Post webfact 166783
Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on the latest work by officers of Region 1 immigration in the Thai capital Bangkok. Immigration had been told by secret informers that two old foreigners were living in Sukhumvit Soi 42/1 in the Phrakhanong area and Pracha Uthit Soi 37 in Bang Mot, Thung Khru. They were both thought to be on overstay. There was a British pensioner and a 62 year old man from Singapore. The officers went to the areas and fanned out so there was no escape when they came out of their apartments. When the British man appeared he resembled the person that the informant had told them about and was accosted. Officers showed their ID and explained why they were there. The first man arrested was 76 year old British pensioner Joseph Taylor whose passport showed he had permission to stay until November 26th 2011. There was absolutely no evidence of any extension to that. Picture: Siam Rath He was thus on well over a decade of overstay in the kingdom - 4,142 days to be exact. He was read his rights and taken to the Klong Tan police station. Picture: Siam Rath The media had a picture of him being led out of a Thai street restaurant. The other man arrested was Singaporean Ng Wing Oon, 62. He was on overstay of 1,373 days, nearly four years. In standard rhetoric in such stories immigration said they were following through on policies of Thai PM Prayuth and DPM Prawit and RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak and deputy Pol Gen Roy to stop Thais and foreigners causing trouble in Thailand, maintain the safety of the public and stop losses to the country. People were advised to call 1178 or contact the www.immigration.go.th site to inform the authorities of wrong doing. Popular Post humbug 1249
Men in green backed by the Chinese nationalists, have been doing this for years, only the virus suspended it I don't even believe 90% of the story spins put out in these articles, you never ever get the foreigners version of events, it's just scare tactics as other posters have said, and promotion of locals to be snitches Even if this regime loses power, that's if it can't greatly cheat, we looking at another 3-6 months of this craziness, until the new regime is in place, no way will the non-men in green regime continue this path, of beauracracy treating non-Chinese foreigners as scum criminals, and brainwash the local population daily with lies, lies and more damn lies but then again, seeing as Thaksin had opened up on his passion for Chinese nationalism, even though his party are promoting fairness, fairer society and far less authoritism, maybe the dream of a new regime being fairer to foreigners will be a lie 3 5

Popular Post spidermike007 63835
I understand every nation has its laws. I am fine with immigration backing up those laws. A ten year overstay is quite an accomplishment. However, I consider integrity and honesty to be important. Saying this is about stopping some kind of loss to the nation is disengenuous. The average Thai earns around 20,000 baht per month. The average pensioner gets how much? 35,000 baht? 50,000 baht? Plus potential income from other sources. So, I just don't see any loss taking place. It is so typical of Prayuth to be dishonest. 11 2 12 1

Perhaps a criminal hiding in Thailand? We don't know. Also these people need to finance their stay here. Perhaps not this old guy but others start to work illegally or commit crimes to get money. In any case these people don't care much about laws and regulations. No need to have them here. And for this old guy - there are other countries with warm weather. So there are still options left if he doesn't want to stay in the UK. And don't blame Thailand for their fate. These people are to blame. 1 4 2 3 2
