A sedan caught fire on Highway 214, Pathum Thani Road, heading from Chomphra district to Tha Tum district, before reaching the intersection of Ban Samrong village, Tambon Nongsonit, Chomphra district, Surin Province. A large smoke cloud caused heavy traffic congestion.

 

The car in question was a gray Toyota Altis with license plate number KOR 1551 Surin. The local rescue unit in Nongsonit revealed that the fire started quickly, causing firefighters from the Nongsonit Tambon Administration Organization water truck, the Loom Ra Wi Tambon Administration Organization water truck, and the Chomphra Tambon Administration Organization rescue unit to come and help put out the fire, which took 30 minutes to control.

 

The sedan was completely destroyed by the fire, but fortunately, the driver and passengers were unharmed, reported Thai Rath.

 

According to a news reporter who contacted the authorities for further information, the car that caught fire was previously a taxi but had been converted into a private sedan by the owner after the taxi license had expired.

As most taxis i know of are fitted with gas, it was very lucky the heat did not make the tank explode. Im not sure what they mean by 'converted into a private sedan' removed the meter?

My guess is a dodgy LPG conversion, especially as it used to be a taxi.

The Thai article says something like he (the owner) had removed the gas tank?

Bit of a mystery to me. Maybe leave fiddling with gas equipment to professionals.

A quick coat of paint and there you have a new low mileage car awaiting for a buyer
