My mother is considering retiring in Thailand and oddly this is one of the major topics on her mind. Her skin is sensitive to "hard" water (water with a high concentration of calcium or magnesium ions). Well water in particular can have this problem. It depends on the geology of the source of the water supply.

Along with causing soap scum to form in fixtures and pipes, it can cause nasty eczema in people like my mother. She had this problem growing up in farm country in Canada and had water softeners installed when needed as an adult. Where she lives now there the water is delightfully "soft".

Anybody had the need to install water softening equipment in their dwelling, and is it easily available for purchase in Thailand?
