A homeowner in Hebron, NY, killed a 20-year-old woman after her vehicle pulled into his driveway on Saturday night.

"Through the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the vehicle the victim was in mistakenly pulled into the driveway at the Patterson Hill Road address," the Washington County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release, identifying the homeowner as 65-year-old Kevin D. Monahan.

The victim, identified as Kaylin A. Gillis, was killed after Monahan "fired at least two shots" at the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene soon after officers arrived.

I'd be surprised if he makes it to trial ????

"After his arrest, Monahan was briefly taken to the Washington County Correctional Facility in Fort Edward (where Gillis's father is a correctional officer). Monahan was then taken 45 miles (72 km) away to Warren County, where he is being held at the Warren County Jail in Lake George."

Apparently, you don't even have to knock on the door anymore.

Interestingly there’s a SCOTUS ruling on the right of Police Officers to knock on the doors of suspects.

The SCOTUS affirms that right on the basis of it being a right enjoyed by civilians as normal custom and practice (implicit license).

USA  land of NRA. This country has been dangerous for years, and it will not

change in our life time. Maybe if they can get a president who is younger than 70

and does not have a lot of baggage like the current leader and the past leader

have. Time will tell.

Well, she'll never do it again and he will have no driveway to protect.  Sorted.

He'll probably live out his days as a guest of the state.  The girl's family could sue the fool for wrongful death -- if he has kids waiting for inheritance there's another reason for them to hate him.

To get up to our house and speak to someone, people have to come 40 or 50 metres up the driveway.

In 18 years of living here we must have had hundreds of visitors who wish to talk to my wife, me or our son.

We don't have and have never needed a gun to keep them away.

Many years ago we had a visit from the police and the army looking for a long gun.

Should we have shot at them for trespassing?

Same in Thailand and many other countries.

Really? Examples?

Mind you, the point is what is understood by "trespassing". An open driveway without a gate is not the same as breaking into a home with a locked door.
