May 7, 20232 yr Hi all - I'd like to have a totally cheap hobby grow in an area of about 40x60cm. If anything 40x40 rather than 40x80++ Can I get 3-4 plants in 40x60(x120)? Can anyone with experience with lighting comment on what's available at rock bottom prices on SHOPEE (vendor Thailand)? I'm partial to Samsung 281, 301 only because of reading. I see many brand LEDs for under 1k - this cannot be correct. Living in a condo I only have a few screwdrivers and a pair of needlenose pliers for assembly. The condo itself receives no direct sun. Thank you PS I will initially be growing some seeds I had found in some cheap but rather potent weed from a BKK weed shop. Can anyone recommend: 1. Seller and brand of seeds that can be purchased (cod) in Thailand? I need medium to higher yield. 2. Potent killer strain, preferably heavy "Indica" hybrid. Thanks again
May 7, 20232 yr I like bacon and sausage. I do not raise pigs in my condo, nor do I use my kitchen as an abattoir, or use my bathroom to smoke and cure meats. I buy bacon and sausage in the store. Can you grow cannabis in your condo? Sure. How much cannabis do you expect to need, per crop or month? I'd focus on the strain first, do not use bag seed. Do not scrimp on seeds. Maybe consider autoflowers (FastBuds for example). And I wouldn't scrimp on a light. You'll be lucky to get 1 gram/watt with a full spectrum LM301 style LED, probably more like half a gram. There are a lot of second-hand lights for sale on FB, from growers who quickly gave up. And you're going to have to deal with the smell. There are folks out there (in Thailand of course) who will contract grow your seeds, but they can be challenging to find and vet.
May 7, 20232 yr It's about 5,000bht for a grow lamp LED that works (2ft x 4ft grow area). I use HLG240+ Quantum board and it's good for 1-2 flowering plants, 2-4 vegging plants, or 15 seedlings. Assume a 1oz (or less) harvest from a plant. About 95% of the ads currently on Lazada appear to be for fake products. This is one that appears legit. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/folux-plus-v3-240w-i2920363109-s10707223924.html

Yawn You know, I don't think I asked about any of that not a bit. Raising pigs... What a rude, crass and feeble analogy. I guess anyone that has a houseplant is living in a sty? ????????????????

Yeah, ok b650 for a 5000b light ez to spot. There are a few vendors with high # reviews and fairly large number of products. I'd assume these legit. Thanks ????

I doubt anyone waits 3 months to post a review of a grow lamp. Which is the only way you could know if it was likely to work as a newb. Even the 5000bht lamp I linked is a bit small for 2 plants.

My point was that it may be more cost effective to purchase cannabis than to produce it. Just think about folks with indoor grow rooms struggling to get their AC down to 25 with an outside temp of 40 today.

You've also obviously missed my sole reason for doing this: HOBBY. The room will be 26 at night, 28 five hours a day and no AC balance hours. I really don't care TBH it's a weed, it will be fine. I'm perfectly fine paying about 5k all in and expect to get that back out sooner or later in buds.

But the current 40c isn't good for growing cannabis, Nov/Dec/Jan was fine. I've about 6oz from my winter grow, cost me nothing but my time.

Don't waste money on anything apart from the lamp! Remember, you can't go away for 3 months when you start growing. Most people give up and get ZERO ROI.

I tried to use tiny URL but it got complicated on my phone. The 800w looks tits but also suspect. One (800w) is overseas. Worried about counterfeit product. Url edited out. I haven't used those multi-bar type lamps, but they look legit at 4,000bht.

The ones most easily to mislabel or counterfeit. The tiny little LEDs. LEDs are notorious for a long life can I expect that out of this sort of lighting? Those strike me as the most suspect. What I read about the bar array is that the part may be counterfeit. China eh...

It's 2023 now and they are both still fully functional, no dead LEDs.

May 7, 20232 yr Author Hey all I've come to my senses and decided that buying a b1000 LED + energy is not worth the challenge/ hobby. What I will do is buy a b300 W bulb because there's no direct light in the condo. Even more challenging. So, this thread is done. Thank you all for your input. I did learn a bit from all of you.

May 8, 20232 yr I use MarsHydro LEDs (FC-E8000 and 2 x TSL-2000), but I am tempted to try another cheap LED as I have a bit more tent space now. Saw a full spectrum with dimmer on Lazada for around 1,000thb. Gonna give it a try and report back here.
