I think he understood the slang.

 

It's the bit about " the lot of them" that is wide of the mark.

Unfortunately, no. 

 

Your wording suggested " one who wears a holy robe". As in anyone. There was no reference to those committing crimes.

but i didn't say anyone and this story is about a certain group of them. so i thought saying them in this story covered that. 

 

this group of clowns deserve nothing more than a stiff jail sentence and to be defrocked and cast out of the community (of monks).

I really find this hard to believe.  This must have been a very large, very popular temple to raise that kind of money.
