As part of their operation, the Immigration Bureau successfully apprehended a number of criminals involved in fraudulent cryptocurrency activities that reportedly deceived numerous Chinese investors, leading to damages over 500 million Thai Baht.

The operation was a result of a collaboration between the Chinese embassy in Thailand and the crime suppression center in Shanghai, China.

The culprits, three key suspects, operated out of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, and later fled to Thailand. The immigration authorities have since ordered their arrest and prosecution.

The gang had established a call center operation in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, to advertise and entice investments in platforms such as Gold Tianli, Excellent Trading Hall, Sina Finance, and Jinyu International.

These platforms were involved with cryptocurrency investments. They lured the public through various websites and online platforms and communicated with potential investors through apps. They also deceitfully coerced individuals to work in their call center operations.

Furthermore, the IB apprehended the head of a Chinese call center gang who was involved in fraudulently impersonating government officials. The operation has been linked to over 8,500 cases, causing damage exceeding 8 billion Baht.

I have two friends who had successful businesses in SKV. I visited them  every time  I came to Thailand . They were eventually driven out by the the Chinese casino thugs who took over the town, who bulldozed all the well placed existing hotels / restaurants.  Apparently , since over a year now, the Chinese authorities have made a deal with the Cambodian leaders to find/ stamp out these illegal money laundering casinos and call centers . Too much undeclared money is leaving China. Quite obvious, these thugs are not going to set up in Hong Kong or Malaysia or Singapore, so they’ve chosen Bangkok, Pattaya and where else. We’ve seen the beginnings with what happened with the Bangkok run casino where mainly Chinese were present. Call centers are seemingly popular in Chiang Mai . Doesn’t surprise me.  Immigration needs to stamp this out before they take over.

Again immigration? This wouldnt be under another section of police?

Or immigration is now overall police?

'The operation was a result of a collaboration between the Chinese embassy in Thailand and the crime suppression center in Shanghai, China.'  All the police work was done abroad; you don't think Thai police had anything to do with suppressing crime do you?  They can't even control traffic lights!

Thailand seems like the epicenter of call centers

The article says the call center was in Cambodia.

The alleged culprits feld to Thailand.

Thailand is the epicenter to which all international criminals flee. Because it's so easy to enter and stay to pay.

Not saying there aren't a shed-load of boiler rooms here, there are.

Immigration (police) officers deal with foreigners in Thailand and Immigration officers are RTP officers, always have been.
