Employee Steals Employer's Vehicle: Dramatic Car Chase Through Pattaya Ends in Arrest

On the night of May 28, 2023, at around 22.00, Pattaya city police were notified of a car theft. The stolen vehicle, a pickup truck, was spotted by its owner, Ms. Channikarn Aemwijittragarnok, a 38-year-old house renovation contractor. She was driving along with two others in pursuit of the stolen vehicle in the Buakhao alley, Pattaya central, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.

 

Ms. Channikarn and two of her employees chased the black MG pickup truck, registration Krabi 7416, through the city. They shouted out for help, yelling "Help! Thief stole the car!" and honked the horn to draw the attention of local residents, asking for help to stop the stolen vehicle, reported Thai Rath.

 

One of the employees, Mr. Bank (alias), 28, even attempted to shatter the rear windshield of the stolen pickup to stop the thief.

 

Despite these efforts, the driver of the stolen vehicle, recklessly sped away, causing damage to several other cars belonging to locals and tourists.

 

When the chase reached the middle of Buakhao alley, traffic congestion forced the stolen vehicle to stop. Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Bank jumped down from their vehicle and attempted to break the stolen vehicle's window. At that moment, the thief opened the door and fled on foot.

 

However, he didn't get far before local residents captured him successfully. The thief tried to hide in an apartment nearby but was mobbed by the locals before police from Pattaya city station could intervene and control the situation. The culprit was identified as Mr. Noppadol Chontharawong, 25, an employee of Ms. Channikarn.

 

Ms. Channikarn revealed that the vehicle had been stolen on the night of May 27, 2023, when she and her employees were working on a home renovation in Pattaya. They discovered the theft the next morning when the truck was missing, along with Mr. Noppadol, who could not be reached.

 

After finding out that Mr. Noppadol was with a woman in Buakhao alley, Ms. Channikarn approached the woman, who agreed to lure Mr. Noppadol out under the pretense of meeting at her workplace.

 

Assistant Inspector Yuthana Khanthasap, Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, has detained Mr. Noppadol for further investigation.

 

Initially, the suspect denied the theft, claiming that he merely borrowed the truck to visit a sick relative and didn't think it would cause such a huge commotion. He explained his escape attempt as fear of being attacked.

 

Regardless, the aggrieved party is firm in their intent to press charges to the full extent of the law, and the police will expedite legal procedures accordingly.

i am very surprised he denied the theft. usually in these situations the perp owns up to their pathetic manboy actions.

Didn't think tourists could own vehicles? Certainly can't register them on a tourist visa.

A lot of Chonburi residents have their vehicles registered in Bangkok btw.
