The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released an advisory today warning about strong monsoon rains impacting 10 provinces, urging caution against potential flash floods and landslides. The advisory will remain in effect until June 6 and impacts the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Thai entrepreneurs urge government to prioritise reducing energy costs

A recent survey by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has shown that the majority of entrepreneurs are urging the new government to fulfil its promise to lower electricity costs, as outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Move Forward Party and seven other political parties. Of the 252 executives across 45 industries surveyed, 75.8% voted for adjusting energy prices as the most critical and urgent issue among those listed in the MoU.

A cannabis vendor in the central province of Nakhon Pathom jumped onto the back of a speeding pickup to demand payment from his fleeing client. The ganja thief then shot the vendor in the leg after he leapt from the moving vehicle.

Thai textile factory ordered to pay 19 million baht in overdue wages to workers

Textile factory workers in Thailand’s central Samut Prakan province are set to receive 19.33 million baht in unpaid wages, plus 15% interest, after labour authorities intervened on their behalf. The factory operator has been ordered to expedite the payment process for approximately 109 workers who had not received their full wages between July 2020 and April this year.

Thai drug enforcement officials and Navy SEALs seized 909kg of crystal methamphetamine, or Ice, on Tuesday night from a trawler in the Gulf of Thailand, about 20 nautical miles from Samed Island in the eastern province of Rayong. The 6 crew members were arrested.

A suspect in a Phuket gangland murder, recently extradited from Canada, will be tried in Bangkok, the authorities have confirmed. According to a Phuket News report, Sermphan Sirikong, chief of the Phuket Provincial Police, says Matthew Dupre will stand trial in Bangkok, instead of at Phuket Provincial Court, on the island where the crime was committed.

Government confirms 4-month electricity discount for users below 300 units

The personal computer (PC) market in Thailand is predicted to expand by 7.9% this year, driven by the increasing demand from businesses seeking digital transformation, according to IDC Thailand’s market analyst. The first quarter of 2023 saw the market contract by 20.3% year-on-year, but it experienced a 12.9% growth quarter-on-quarter due to consumer spending through the government’s “Shop Dee Mee Kuen” scheme.
