The Anti-Corruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT) is urging the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to look retroactively into the wealth of every active and retired police commander, especially highway police commanders.

 

ACT Secretary-General Mana Nimitmongkol said on Wednesday that he is confident that the NACC will be able to identify whether the wealth of the officers was legally acquired or not.

 

He stressed the need for an outsider, such as the NACC, to investigate the overloaded truck sticker scandal, rather than allowing the police to effectively investigate itself.

 

Each overloaded truck is alleged to have paid kickbacks, of as much as 10,000 baht or more on a monthly basis, to highway police for easy passage without being stopped for inspection.

why stop there ?

 

every person severving in government these last 13 years should also be looked at, it is in the public interest that anyone that is paid from tax payers money should be open to public financial scrutiny and investigation, I cannot think of any reason why they shouldn't

......btw, who monitors the Corruption Watchdog? Isn't ACT just part of the cult pretending to be a fair and just independent body?

It’s about time thay do this,, Iff you drive a truck you get stopt and in 95% you get a fine for,, nothing ! And Iff you go over the border you must pay also 1-5000b or you stand there for a couple off days. Border control and police,, all corrupt like hell.

I knew a police captain in Pattaya, a Thaksin supporter. He had several nice cars, several condos and a beautiful wife. When Thaksin was ousted, this captain lost everything because he was reassigned to a post where the brown envelopes disappeared.

Right every high-ranking policeman, every high-ranking military man and from the top to the bottom in politics, school directors and pretty much everybody would be arrested and that’s not gonna happen. TIT.

Nancy Lindley once told me that after her and Roger had their belongings shipped to CM the "customs" folks wouldn't release it until they paid a fee. I believe she said the fee was nearly as much as it cost to ship it halfway across the world.

Corruption is rampant in all countries in politics and police forces. If the National Anti-Corruption Commission were to announce the were going to investigate police commanders you can rest assured that the commission would report that they found nothing as the commanders would slip them a bribe so fast you wouldn't believe it.

 

Kind of like how the RTP police never find any hint of prostitute anywhere at any time.

A sensible idea. But doesn't go anywhere near far enough. Anyone that has family members that applied for govt staff positions knows you have to "buy" your position. SIL paid a half mil to get a cushy govt job paying less than 20k a month with good benefits. Supposedly over 1,000 applicants for 2 positions available. Total and thorough investigations of all civil servants with the power to hire is necessary.

 My concern with this checking police bank accounts is that any half sensible criminal copper will have gotten the ill gotten payments sent to their wives, sons, nephews, grandchildren etc which as we know from the USA is the GOLD STANDARD of honesty and integrity and does in no way suggest corruption.

And when they find 80% + are corrupt what then?

Should compare assets in rapport with their income tax declaration. then, how can they defend having accumulated wealth that does not proportionately correspond to their salaries?

If he is serious ACT Secretary-General Mana Nimitmongkol had better be watching his back. If I remember rightly "Big Joke" has been severely threatened in the past with shots fired into his car and demotions/relocations.

The headline was nice and promising, but a little later the article mentioned the NACC should do it...

that deflated the whole balloon.

The wife is good at bingo, I won the lottery, the rice harvest was good, it's a private loan from my in-laws, I'm sure Thailands finest wont struggle to find an explanation and if all else fails they would know about the channels for brown envelopes.

Tell them they are dreaming it won't happen too many people in high places run this country

First, they need to check the wealth of every member of the NACC., whose real job is ensuring corruptioni funds go where they're supposed to!

I will investigate it for a very small fee and my findings will be sack them all seize their assets and give it to the poor schools ????

Ever seen the drugs publicly disposed of and verified by independent witnesses who are above being bought off?

The police farce are a money making mafia organisation, and the higher up the rank the higher the rewards.
