5y driver licence renewal Bang Lamung

Can I use a colour photocopy of a certificate of residence to obtain a driving licence? Or do I need to go and get another one and fork out another 300 Baht?

 

I obtained one last month to register a vehicle in my name.

I have used one original and one copy before. Not sure you would get away with just a copy and probably unlikely.

I went down to Immigration this morning and the counter 9 (COR desk) officer was asking all COR driving licence supplicants if they wanted both licences. If the answer was in the affirmative, the price was 600 Baht.

 

I just got one COR. I don't really need a car licence. However I will try an original and a copy for both licences at the Transport Dept. If they won't accept it, I will just get a motorbike licence.

They have been pulling that one for a while. However last time I heard it was only 500 so curious how long ago they put the price up.

300 x 2 = 600. I think that is their thinking.

Although the Land Transport Office will accept one original and a photocopy of the Certificate if obtaining both an automobile and motorcycle license, the Immigration Office will tell you that you need an original Certificate for each if you indicate on the application form it is for both - if you indicate it is only for one or the other, you can  make a photocopy to give to the Land Transport Office with your documentation for the second license (motorcycle or automobile).

Pretty sure they will want to see an original... I think they are only valid for a month from issue anyhow, and for the purpose issued..

I went on December 9, and the earliest appointment was for January 3. They inspected my paperwork and found an error in my residency certificate, which is helpful because I can have it corrected and save a third trip out there. The appointment process was very easy and fast.

Please let us know what the error was so we can rectify at immigration. 

 

We are not all as lucky as you to have any errors corrected on site.

I had just renewed my retirement visa which is now good until January 2026. That's 2569 in Thai years, but immigration put 2568. Immigration fixed it for free at the immigration office, but the transport office could not fix it on-site.

Renewals require two trips...one trip for an appointment, and one trip for the renewal. If I arrived with the wrong residency cert I would have needed a third trip back after asking immigration to correct it. Sorry you didn't understand but I think my use of English was fine 😊

Oh good point, I didn't realise the error noted when making appointment.

I mentioned it because it worked to my advantage to have my paperwork checked when I made the appointment. The downside would be if appointments are more than 30 days out because the residency cert is only valid for 30 days.

 

It would be nice if their appointment app worked for this office but it's only once every five years so not that big a deal.
