Bar & Booze hours this week
Another tiresome, predictable post which ignores the fact that the "drinking community" like to drink in licensed premises such as bars and restoration. Alcoholics like to stock up and sit and drink alone, not social drinkers. -

Report Ho Chi Minh City Durian Buffet Consumes Two Tons in Record Time
Picture courtesy of VN Express In a remarkable display of culinary enthusiasm, a durian buffet in Ho Chi Minh City saw two tons of the fruit devoured, wrapping up earlier than planned. The event, hosted on Sunday by Vina T&T, was a rare treat for durian lovers, offering an all-you-can-eat session for just 199,000 VND (approximately 275 THB). Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the buffet ended by 6 p.m. due to an overwhelming turnout, as reported by Thanh Nien newspaper. The event featured the popular Ri6 durian, sourced straight from the fertile Mekong Delta region. A representative from Vina T&T expressed surprise at the strong community and media response, which surpassed expectations. "Unfortunately, due to weather and logistics snags, our additional shipment of durians couldn't arrive on time," they explained. Among the satisfied attendees was Yen Oanh, who praised the offering as great value compared to current market prices. “These durians taste superior to what I usually find at markets,” she shared with Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper. This was the third durian buffet organised by Vina T&T and the second within Ho Chi Minh City. The inaugural feast took place in the southern province of Dong Thap, where guests consumed a ton of durians over two days in late May and early June. Durian buffets are gaining immense popularity in major producer countries like Thailand and Malaysia. Some venues even collaborate with orchards to create enticing packages that combine buffet access with accommodation and other travel experiences. In a world where food events are consistently looking for the next big thing, it seems the iconic durian is making its mark as a unique culinary carnival. Whether you love it or loathe it, there’s no denying that the “king of fruits” has a devoted following, eager to indulge whenever the chance arises. Adapted by ASEAN Now from VN Express 2025-07-08 -
