Mover Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat on Tuesday reaffirmed his support for the ASEAN centrality in resolving the crisis in Myanmar in what is seen as his attempts to distance himself from the current Thai government’s peace initiative that has drawn widespread criticisms from both local and international human rights and democracy groups.

Pita also pledged to have an inter-agency task force set up in the Prime Minister’s Office to coordinate multi-pronged efforts and seek solutions to the Myanmar situation.

Pita, whose party emerged the top winner in the recent general election, is in the process of setting up a coalition government with himself as prime minister.  Pita has been openly critical of the Prayut government’s policy toward Myanmar which he sees as too accommodating to the military junta which seized power in early 2021.

Birds of a feather. Thailand Junta rep in blue, Myanmar Junta rep in green. The photo was taken and published at the first meeting shortly after the last coup.

Stay out of Myanmar Pita, you have enough for now with the military regime in Thailand.

Correct. There are enough deep-seeded historic issues to deal with domestically than going off into a dreamy state of saving Burma. Let's concentrate on saving Thailand, firstly......

easier said then done, many have tried to convince the dictator to stop sending planes to kill his own people, meetings in Singapore, the guy from Indonesia and Malaysia got involved to no avail, the only way to get rid of this type of dictator is using a sniper shot but again, vermin very hard to kill.... he has a short/small man syndrome complex..... and loves golden glasses Thailand has a short fat one that loves golden watches... birds of the feather

Thailand's military sometimes forgets that Burma used to invade Thailand "whenever they wanted" and destroyed the original capital of Ayutthaya. They are not soft cuddly teddy bears. The one consistent enemy that Thailand has ever had.

Danger Will Robinson.

Yet, weren't they upgraded by English civilised missions?

Probably from which came the inherited evil and nastiness that we've seen since the early 60s.

Sadly ASEAN is completely useless and the rest of the world doesn't give a flying f.K about Myanmar. Same will happen here when the military once again moves in. Military people in certain regions of the world are complete nutters. Power hungry, corrupt AH who don't give a damn about killing the citizens, only protecting their power and wealth by any means.

He is already demonstrating the kind of moral courage Cha Cha is completely lacking. The younger man is a real man, trying to usurp a cowardly little boy.

Till now it is just empty talk...Empty talk is cheap. And I doubt the most genius person could come up with a working peace deal in Myanmar, as neither side there will cave in....so it is just wasted time.

for what ?

to show thai and the world that they do not support or condone the actions taking place there.....unlike previous times.

all it takes is a statement and a headline to show the world how the thai government feels about it. he looses nothing and gains support of the common man.

looks rather weak if you just turn a blind eye.

ps....funny that very little is ever said around the world about myanmar. must not be enough gas or oil resources to justify outrage. yet numerous countries over the last decade have been helped with very similar situations.

nothing to loose? Thailand is doing a lot trade with Myanmar and also buys their gas there. So having a good relationship is important.

A lot to loose....Just to show the twitter world that we can do tough talking. In reality no one care.

Saudi Arabia, Russia, Malaysia (Sharia), USA, Iran......

Specially on the oil and gas it looks bad and making a pipeline from Norway to Thailand might be a bit costly.

Pipeline gas works only from countries that are close.

Thailand produced a lot gas themself in the gulf, but they screwed up things....I didn't read what they did but there was some major problem.

And tell the Thai people...sorry electric and cooking gas goes up 30% because we don't like Myanmars internal affairs....Thai people may ask why they get punished.

Thailand should be neutral and friendly to both sides.

One less junta is always a win for the world.

you can't say that....Hitler and Stalin weren't military....And I would strongly prefer some moderate Prayuth over them, if they had a coup in time.
