Go easy on the growing cannabis industry says Anutin who concedes that Pita will be the next PM

On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul suggested that it is unlikely that Pita Limjaroenrat will not become Thailand’s next Prime Minister in July. Earlier this week, he called on the new incoming government to study all the available information and not to derail the rise of a beneficial cannabis industry in Thailand alongside the easier availability of the drug to those with medical needs.

Constructive noises from the Bhumjaithai Party and Mr Anutin’s plea to the new government to protect the nascent cannabis industry comes in a week which has seen a shift in attitude by the establishment towards the election results with increased optimism that a new government will be formed in July rather than in August as was originally envisaged.

The incoming government must act cautiously concerning calls to relist cannabis as a scheduled narcotic, warned Thai Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul this week. He told reporters, on Sunday, that he believed there will be a new government in July led by Pita Limjaroenrat while denying reports of an approach by the Move Forward Party to the Bhumjaithai Party to support the new ministry in parliament.

 

Outgoing Minister of Public Health, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has told reporters that he thinks it unlikely that the Move Forward Party and Mr Pita Limjaroenrat will fail to forge a new government in July despite ongoing questions being raised about Mr Pita’s status and a possible contretemps with the Pheu Thai Party over the House Speaker position which may come to the boil on Tuesday.

I think the lights have come on for the 'old guard' and they realize that the majority of Thai people want change. Resisting and/or delaying change through manipulation would be met with major trouble in the streets.

Pita has said he would regulate the industry, not dismantle it, making clear boundaries.

Anutin pushed it through without regulation leaving it wide open for the free-for-all mess that ensued.

Chonlanan Srikaew is a physician and in leadership of the Pheu Thai Party. He is vocal in his opposition to Cannabis liberalization, as is PTP in general. MoveForward is also anti-Cannabis.

 

He has been expressing an interest in the Minister of Public Health position, for PTP and presumably, himself.

 

If that happens it is likely that he will relist Cannabis as a Narcotic on day 2, but still allow some few strictly controlled medical applications (mostly CBD based) as things were pre June 9, 2022.

For me is regulating the same as destroying it. If there is no recreational marijuana than there is no industry anymore.

If they ban advertising only than it is OK, but basically everything else will destroy it.

Chonanan is just a figure head. The party is owned by Thaksin who dictates policy but he is virulently anti-drugs, having witnessed the effects on his son.  Had about 2,000 or more alleged drug dealers murdered without due process on his watch. Many, including a 9 year old boy and a 70 year women, were either nothing to do with drugs or were members of rival drug gangs not supported by police.

P:ersonally I don't see it as at all inevitable that MFP will get to form a government. Even if Pita is not yet suspended by the Constitutional Court by the tme the PM election takes place, the senate will not vote for them in large enough numbers.  Anutin's BJP will not vote for him, neither will the Democrats. So where does Anutin think he will get the 375 votes.  I think he is just putting out his position for whoever gets to be PM.

Yes he was and probably still is a dreadful person.
