Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie said former President Trump will show up to the GOP primary debates because of his ego.

The New York Times’s Maureen Dowd interviewed Christie, former governor of New Jersey, for an opinion piece published Saturday. When asked whether he believed Trump would attend the GOP debates after previously saying he may not, Christie affirmed that the former president most likely will.

“I think that he’ll show up at the debates because his ego won’t permit him not to,” Christie said. “He can’t have a big TV show that he’s not on.”

“He’s on Truth Social going bonkers, and no one’s paying attention? He won’t deal well with that,” the former governor added.

Christie has repeatedly reiterated that he has the skills to beat Trump at a debate because he helped him prep for his debates in 2016 and 2020. He has also called on the former president to commit to attending the debate, saying on Friday that he will “shame” Trump into showing up to the debates.

Entertainment TV at it's worst.  As if 2016/20 wasn't embarrassing enough.

Trump is correct though, ratings will go through the roof when he's involved.

$$$ ... I can see them paying candidates to attend in the future, same as sports figures, whether they were planning on playing/winning or not.  Golf is a fine example.

Gladiators to the Colosseum ... nothing has changed in couple thousand years.

People wonder why the world is in the state that it is.

It would definitely be a sight to see. Big Chris is a sharp cookie, and similar to Trump is rather.... unrestrained... in how he talks.  I can see Chris doing a big splash on Trump like a pro wrestler, both of them being taken out in the move. Then Chris can come back to life as a VP or AG pick for another GOP frontrunner.

Debate ! He’s the leader of the pack.

Ahead by double digits!

Nothing to gain and nothing to …

When he wins New Hampshire and then South Carolina it will be time to start writing his acceptance speech for the Gop party convention!

If it's a real debate with reasonable rules your assumption is probably correct.

However if the network hosting it wants Trump to get the ratings up, and Trump insists on rules that allow the loudest buffoon to clam victory, then it will just be a waste of time.

In fact, for his entire political career, Biden has been known for making gaffes. So what the right is claiming is that his behavior is consistent with what he's done his whole life. That's not a sign of dementia.

Correct. It is a sign of being a complete dolt.

His dementia is better displayed in his inability to walk up stairs, step over objects, balance a bicycle, remember names etc.

How about the "stable genius" who thought the penthouse he lived in was three times bigger than it actually is?
