I have no other option than TURP or complete removal.

Did anyone have TURP done in KK or Udon?

Where, who, price, outcome?

I would prefer to have it close. Have it done somewhere distant would make some extra effort.

Wife and "driver" with me.

mind if i ask. have you ever had issues with prostate in the past.

Long lasting and relied on medication.

Inherited from father who lived with catheter through the abdominal wall.

No other option: was at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya today and the news were clear and shocking.

Oh dear,

That doesn't sound good. I hope it all works out for you

I am going later this month to get sorted via my annual health check paying particular attention to Prostate at Bangkok hospital, Khonkaen.

Only just finished with Colonoscopy and Biopsy results tomorrow.

Had my Turp done in the USA.  I know it's a long way to go but other treatment and surgery I have had done at BNH hospital in Bangkok went perfectly.  I get a quarterly checkup for other health issues and make the 2 hour drive to BNH instead of local treatment in Pattaya.  Great doctors and staff there.  Only a suggestion and I realize it is well beyond your local facilities.

I had TURP done in Bangkok about 3 years ago. I have an enlarged prostate, doctor who did the op said one of the largest he had ever seen (I am only 160 cm) They found a number of stones in my prostate. If you would  like to see the amount they took out, I can send attachment. Not made any difference to PSA, probably get up one time in night, sometimes none

My Surgeon/Dr in NZ gave me some advice when I was having some prostate problems.......seek out the Surgeon/Dr who has performed the most procedures that you are considering getting, because there is no substitute for experience and practice.

And he is one of the few doctors/medical practitioners in this world for whom I have the utmost respect.

For what it's worth............

My prostate was removed in Belgium

And no incontinence afterwards?

Of course it will be up to the professional to decide, but I also think better remove the whole growth?

Do you have prostate cancer or BPH? TURP is a procedure for BPH and removes just part of prostate (the R stands for resection)  whereas for cancer a prostatectomy (complete removal of the prostate) is done. An alternative to prostatectomy for some cancer patients  is brachytherapy.

That has not been diagnosed in full.

As a pessimist I fear for cancer. 143 ml is obviously very big and why?

Next week looking in Khon Kaen.

In that case first step might  be a biopsy. Which can not only tell if it is cancer but give an idea of how aggressive.

If it is cancer they will not do a TURP.  The surgical option is prostatectomy.  There are nerve-sparing techniques for that which can reduce risk of adverse effects.

As mentioned brachytherapy is also an

 Non-surgical option insome cases.

What is your PSA?

That is indeed high. I understand your concern.

If you decide on prostatectomy ask about nerve-sparing surgery.

OP: If it is required to have a  prostatectomy, don't omit to have a follow up PSA test one month later. If cancer, it is possible the cancer has spread which would likely require ongoing hormone treatment. For further info on prostate cancer go to:

For now just a short feedback with not too much detail.

Bangkok Hospital Khon Kaen.

Had a prostate MRI on July 29, inconclusive but with the other examinations no cancer suspected. Size corrected to 119 ml.

(MRI exhausting 2 hours! lying flat with those "space sounds").

July 31, TURP done with spinal block. That went a bit to the edge, 2.5 hours! After about 2 hours the anesthesia started to fade and it became more than uncomfortable.

One sleepless night in "ICU".

Four more nights in standard room.

August 4, catheter removed. Initial result shocked me, some bloody dribble.

But now a good stream.

Developed an urinary tract infection (ecoli), pumped with antibiotic infusions.

73 grams of growth removed, no cancer in tissue!

Good: no cancer found, close to no relevant pain. Could sit and move from the 2nd day.

Not so good: my kidney function is under watch. Blood test result went worse after TURP? Waiting for another blood test.

Urine still not crystal clear but urologist was not concerned.

Overflowing bank account relieved.
