After the turbulent weather that had descended on Phuket this week, a warning remains from the Phuket Marine Office, casting a temporary restriction upon small boats venturing into open seas, including Phang Nga Bay and the Andaman Sea. The warning remains despite the high westerly winds abating today and into the weekend.

Nachapong Pranit, Chief of the Phuket Marine Office, referred to the Thai Meteorological Department’s alert regarding heavy rains and high winds dominating the Andaman Sea. The waves, were forecast to reach as high as 3 metres in open waters this week “posing a serious risk to maritime safety, warranting immediate action”.

Winds of up to 30 knots from the west hit Phuket on Wednesday and Thursday with even higher winds recorded on Wednesday evening across the island.
