An improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly planted by insurgents near Yala’s Mueang district police station, was safely defused on Sunday by a team of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) officers.

A 15kg gas cylinder, stuffed with explosives, was found placed against the fence of the district police station, where several seized cars and motorcycles are being kept, prompting an EOD team to rush to the site.

The EOD officers initially deployed a robot to check the suspicious device, before using a high-powered water cannonto disrupt its detonation mechanism and moving in to defuse it.

Wonder what religion did this vile act.

I don't really think it has anything to do with religion anymore, even if it did have in the first place.

A lot of these people are about as Muslim as those in Bangkok are Buddhists.

It's about (in my view ) drug trafficking, human trafficking, arms, contraband and whatever else is on the agenda that is illegal.

At the risk of appearing pedandtic the term 'defuse' in this context is incorrect. It should be 'defuze'. This is a common error by journalists.

A 'fuse' (noun) is an electrical component. A 'fuze' (noun) is a explosive component.
