Expats in all other countries over the world have an obligation to report to immigration... some even more difficult than Thailand... if you do not like it feel free to go home.

Missing the point, which is there is no permanency of tenure for a retirement visa.

We are home. Get it?

Not really... you're living in a country that is not your home... it's your residence.

We do our best to make it home, sadly the authorities do make it seem a temporary arrangement. I suspect it will get less hospitable in the coming years.

That's the choice we made... every country changes the requirements never seen one yet that makes it impossible for retirees to live there

Phuket has quiet beaches. Most Thais are more friendly than farangs. Medical care is good. Dentists are cheap. Glasses are cheap.

Rentals are cheap.

Hard to believe you have been to Thailand.

It depends where you are. If you're driving on the roads, at least in Isaan where I am, then I can think of many words to describe Thai drivers. Not all are allowed on here and none are "friendly". It's one of my great pleasures when I return to the UK. Drivers who look as if they might have passed a test at some point, and don't drive as if they are the only ones who need to go anywhere and treat other traffic like they are slalom poles to weave around.

There are a lot of friendly Thais but I generally find the same in the UK.

6m spend is silly unless you have plenty or know the country well.

Most farang who buy a house spend at least that. You consider them silly. Your opinion.

Average cost of care home in UK is 760 pounds or 1485 Australian  dollars per week. Don't expect a lot for that unless your prepared to pay for a much better class of retirement/nursing home

You need to spend nearly all your savings before any help is provided Anything over 23k and you will need to contribute

Fella ,  Pls stop spreading totally inaccurate info.   Residential care in the uk costs £6000 GBP + per month.. I am currently paying £6200 GBP per month for her residential care , this is because she has assets of more than £23500 when her funds are depleted the government will pay . The same care  , if not better in thailand costs 1/3 of this .  We are moving to LOS.     k????

i am not spreading inaccurate information. Just simply google it (average cost of residential care)

https://www.carehome.co.uk/advice/care-home-fees-and-costs-how-much-do-you-pay

Please note i am quoting per week. I also stated that you would not get much for this amount and that you would need to spend a greater amount to receive better accommodation and service.

Nothing I have said is inaccurate and your statement concerning her assets of £23500 only reiterates what i have already said

Care home costs can vary extensively but that does not make my statement incorrect

What are you trying to state?

If you continue to read the posts on the forum that you have linked, it clearly states that care homes can be  2k+ more expensive than those outside of London.

Care homes in the south of the UK are predominately more expensive and the forum seems predominately  referring to specialist care which would class this as more of a nursing home as opposed to a care home which incurs a much greater cost.

When you mix the 2 together your costs are not unsurprising.

My original point was to state how expensive care homes are in the UK (not how Cheap)

My mother is worried as to what percentage of her house they might claim (Government still failing to commit to an amount)

You have proved how expensive it can get depending on where you live  and if  specialist care is needed ( a registered nurse needing to be on site at all times)

My mother, albeit not in care but also suffering from dementia, would never ever want to live in Thailand unless she had reached a vegetated position.

I get that you want people to know how expensive it is, and you have, but we are referring to an average cost which even at its minimum is still extremely expensive.

That's  bull***

European Union has 27 countries with same rules. If you have National Health Insurance in one it's transferable to any other. You get 100% same services there as locals.

Post the proof

Instead of asking someone to 'post the proof' why don't you actually leave your room and discover some things for yourself.   I believe you may be the one who inspired the expression, 'you need to get out more', as you clearly do, and clearly have no idea.   I wonder if you have ever even been to the Darkside of Pattaya, which has hundreds of housing estates, big and small.

If you did leave your room, you would discover that 6MB would be on the low end for detached houses, especially newer ones.  My partner and I have bought 2 houses and are in the process of buying a third house and all were over 6MB.  Most new detached house projects would start around that range and go up from there.

At the new project we are buying at, the prices run from 6.5 to 10MB, in the average range.  You can find smaller, older homes without a pool for less than 6MB but the growing market for farang buyers is a detached home with a pool.   Take a drive over to the Darkside sometime, visit some of the many new housing projects, and you'll see what I am talking about.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but my retirement home w/24/7 personal care w/benefits  cost minimum of 65k a month ????

Any unused is rolled over to the next month, and usual used before that fiscal year ends.  Usually unnecessarily, but adds to my quality of life.

One thing many don’t realize is that these assisted living facilities bump up the prices after people are settled in. In turns into a snowball effect. Your lucky if it stays at the price you heard about!

Not sure about the Uk but the private ones in the USA can go up 20% or more at random (with no notice) if more care is needed, and rarely if ever does it go down. They know how hard it is to move people out once they are settled in. Be warned!

They don’t like to discharge people however. Do it’s more about attaching assets like homes, etc if they can’t get relatives to sign off. If you do the lawyers come after your assets, usually after the resident passes away.
