Having started very young in life  (7yrs old) on motorcross bikes then onto competitive kart racing in my teens followed by grass roots level door to door racing during my 20's....

Am confident I know how to steer, drive hard and fast for sure... dangerously I avoid, infact I have even stopped roll racing in the early hours cause I could see grief coming.

I prefer using common sense over rote rules that do not allow for any deviation despite vastly different driving scenarios and conditions.  Rote rules treat people as if they're stupid, don't possess any common sense and are incapable of figuring things out for themselves.  And that type of attitude actually creates stupid people who then abandon their common sense.  An action can be highly dangerous under one scenario but perfectly safe under a different scenario.  Common sense works wonderfully in guiding your actions.

I love driving in Thailand and never complain about anyone else's driving.

good for you, drive how you feel comfortable with is great advice.

Have done both advance driver and defensive driver training courses (initially in my home country and a refresher 5 yrs ago in Thailand) iam ok with my driving habits.

Why would an advanced driver want a refresher in "Thailand"......?

Who instructed you in Thailand....?

Advance driver training was something my employer provided.... was a refresher course for me.

Was a great week, thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a few high speed things not taught in my home country... I assume because Germany has autobahns where my home country does not.

Driving on the Autobahn is a pleasurable delight that any lover of driving should experience.  200 km/h was my cruising speed.  I laugh whenever I see high end performance cars in Thailand.  Thailand roads aren't built for those machines.

After working here in Bangers for 23 years have retired to the country.

My life style, house, amenities, land & relaxed style of living would just not be possible

in my home country.

Healthcare does cost but works here, many countries including the UK, Oz, NZ as examples

the "free care" is diminishing in quality fast along waiting list for anything needing a specialist.

in your opinion, whats so good about living in Thailand?

for me i struggle to find the positives. lets take a deep dive into the facts for a minute, shall we?

Thailand doesnt have democracy.

This means there is no right to freedom of expression and human rights are not important.

bureaucracy reigns supreme. it affects almost every aspect of daily life here.

90 day reporting. treated like a common criminal the minute we get off the plane.

healthcare only good if you have money. if you are poor forget it.

its either hot or wet most of the year.

pollution is a serious issue and will kill you eventually.

alcohol prices rising fast. soon it will be comparable to the UK/US.

institutional racism.

cant own land. etc etc etc

off the top of my head i can only think of two things that are good about Thailand, they are;

The food.

The women.

if Thailand didnt have those above it would be hell on earth.

how about you lot? what do you find so good about living in Thailand?

Thailand has lost it's attraction 15 years ago.
Foreigners stay in Thailand because:
1. Living in Thailands is cheap compared to most foreign countries.
2. You can have beautiful and young ladies ONLY if you are ready to spend lots of $$$$ on them.
Every woman/boy in Thailand is for sale for sex in you are willing to pay the price.
Most ladies will start the first encounter with:
     - I have debts (and I want you to pay them back).
     - My parents are old and sick and you will need to pay for their medical care.
     - I have kid(s) and you will need to provide the schooling for them (other than a lousy public school or a temple school).
     - You will need to buy a house for us (with enough room for my parents and my kid(s)).
     - You will need to buy a pickup to allow us to travel with the whole family in the back of the pickup.
     - You will need to give me xx,xxx $ every month to get a new lifestyle.
3. Police for is a joke, but they start to tighten the rope for criminal foreigners (also the foreigners who think that they can drive here like a Thai).
4. Basic medical care is very cheap in Thailand, but f you need a surgery or care for an accident, you better start a "GoFund.me" page.
5 Etc...

Yes, I did live in Thailand for a number of years as well but moved back to the west my home for 40 years. Thailand is not good for the elderly. I got so many things I could list here what is better in my home country, but just name a few. In my country I pay nothing to see a doctor, don't have to go to hospital to see a doctor, hospital is free (apart from elective surgery) I went to hospital twice and paid nothing, see my doctor every 3 months and pay nothing. Get free bus rides, some train rides up to 800 km for free. I pay cheap rent (I don't live in Sydney or Melbourne) get assistance with electricity, pay nothing for water which is included in my rent of 240AUD per week, have not had a rent increase for 7 years now still travel to Asia twice a year just on my pension. Pay 13AUD for 4 litres of wine what more do I need? The climate is nice so I can't complain. So why would I move back?

Interested to know more about your “cheap rent” in AU please. How much is cheap? House or apartment? Do you have your own lease or share with other/s? How far are you from the nearest city?

7 motorway is just fine for some high speed driving.

In the wee hours of the morning.  Unless you like to do a lot of weaving.  Which, granted, is fun.

Perhaps the best part of driving here, which is very unlike the U.S., is the lack of cops.  Speeding in the U.S. is very stressful as the cops are everywhere hidden on the roads.  Here it's total relaxation.  You never have to be on the constant look out.

And if caught it's not only a major out of pocket expense but time consuming if the court sends you to school, too.  Here it's a couple of hundred baht for beer money as you hand the officer you're DL.

Yeah roll racing early doors is a blast... But I do enjoy Tearing it up on the daily work commute to and from.

Cops do patrol the 7 but ive never been hassled... Have flashed a few with the high beams to get em to move over and let me through.

The AU aged pension is about $550 pw and rent (including subsidies) for a 2br Perth unit just 6km from the city would be no less than $400 pw therefore it is impossible to believe that the remaining $150 pw covers your food, utilities .....and... two  overseas trips every year!
