Well it is decided. The next time you need to kill off a month it is off to New York for you.

Kyoto is on my to do list but don't think I will do a month there but a month in Japan would be wonderful.

Kyoto is great.  I went there back in the 1990s.

The strangest thing I saw was hundreds of bicycles parked at the station and none of them were locked.

Kyoto is now a huge Chinese destination. But go two stops on the subway from the train station and it will be like you remember it.

Train station sushi or tempura -it dares not be great with that footfall at stake. The best of both dishes were at Kyoto station, even above 100 year old specialists.

ahhh the one that got away. just got back from a week in phuket. what an amazing crazy phenomenal place. something for everyone.

Been to Phuket Old Town once for 3 days 20 years. I hate the beach, but Phuket Island is def a place that could fill 30 days.

Does an island count as a town tho? Sure, why not? Beachwise, I'd be more inclined to the low rent old hippie charm of Ko Chang to kill 30 days.

Those long ago Germans are probably walking with Zimmer frames by now. One had dreadlocks. A white woman with dreadlocks was a top sexual bucket list item of mine. Who else here can claim that same sweet success?

1) Where have you done this (bonus points if it was bad)?

2) Where do you want to do this?

3) Where do you never want to do this?

1) Me, done it in:

Ubon (pretty good, no need for month #2)

Ko Chang (month #2? No prob)

Pai (actually a real town off the falafel stand-Main Street)

Ko Phagnan ( shagged Germans, now out of my league)

Hua Hin (solid, would do Cha-Am next time)

2) Want to do it in:

Silom BKK, Nonthburi, Ko Kret

3) Never want to do it in:

Kanchaburi (angry drunk brit hellhole)

-Not a beach person.

A reason as to why a month is necessary would help in composing a reply.

I lived in Chiang Mai for a year and for all the sightseeing I did it could have been anywhere with shopping malls.

I was definitely interested in women when I was in Thailand, but going all the way there to shag a white woman would have seemed a bit pointless.

Does shagging white women in Thailand deserve its own thread? I'm looking at you Bob Smith.

phuket you can find koh chang vibes.

what i found strange was the lack of actual beach front places in phuket. koh chang has some amazing beach front locations. siam bay is great.

You have to know where to go on Phuket for beachfront. Since I only do beachfront, I did some research before embarking. Found an amazing beachfront property at a reasonable price.

Think the difference being, the damage caused when the Andaman gets piss'd off vs the damage the Gulf will do.  Suspect zoning enforced more on Phuket.

For me, a lack of a beach is no detriment. I want to walk on the beach or eat on a pier maybe 4 times a year.

I really like Hua Hin for that reason -a beach place for the beach-avoidant. Cha-Am seems to be another barely-beach worth checking out.

Phuket would interest me like The Dark Side of Pattaya interests me; it's big messy shmush of East Meets West, currently enduring the stress of change.  Where I live, the Chinese Invasion is broadly regarded as no biggie.

We're going to Ko Lipe this year, and we def want 4 days based in The Old Town for a proper drive around the Island. Phuket is its own thing. I know little about it.
