Two prominent online shopping platforms halt sale of certain coffee products

Two prominent online shopping platforms have removed coffee products from their listings after facing backlash for disregarding cultural sensitivity.

 

Thailand's Ministry of Culture initiated actions against the sale of certain coffee products by issuing a set of requirements for selling.

 

Lazada, one of the platforms, has complied by taking three key actions: removing the offending products, blocking related search terms, and canceling pending orders. They are also implementing additional detection systems to prevent the sale of inappropriate items in the future, reported Thai Rath.

 

This move came in response to public complaints regarding the improper marketing of coffee products on these platforms. Customers expressed concerns about the disregard for Thai culture and ethics, as well as misleading product information.

 

Due to complaints raised, the Ministry of Culture initiated an inquiry into the matter, as certain items lacked transparent details concerning their source, manufacturing, and compliance with Food and Drug Administration regulations, potentially resulting in penalties.

 

They found that the sale of coffee products on the platforms was inappropriate and not aligned with Thai values. As a result, they took actions to ensure cultural respect in online marketing. Lazada has taken the lead, and other platforms selling similar products are expected to follow suit, pending further updates.

 

In the meantime, one of the coffee sellers, "Lung Jun," has been removed from both Lazada and Shopee platforms, with their products no longer available for sale. These actions aim to promote cultural awareness and responsible marketing practices in online commerce.

Lazada and Shopee ban Lung Jun Coffee beans over explicit content

Two leading Asian e-commerce platforms, Lazada and Shopee, have banned Lung Jun Coffee after discovering the brand sold coffee beans with explicit pictures and advertisements referring to a man and woman’s private parts.

 

ThaiRath reported that concerned locals, upon encountering Lung Jun’s coffee beans on an e-commerce platform and noticing social media posts drawing attention to the explicit brand’s content, contacted the platform.

 

They urged the media to bring the matter to public awareness.

What, exactly, are Thai values? From what I've learned in nearly 30 years of reading the media and forums here it is to accept corruption as the norm, to display a Me First attitude, for parents not to parent, for many Thais to show zero self control and no-one taking responsibility for anything.

Arguably the naming of the product might be as tasteless as the coffee beans? 

Yet, in all fairness, nothing better to report on? While the authorities are going over the moon on this issue, they certainly know how to drag feet on issues like a huge svastika on the back of 10-wheelers etc. 

But then again, how does a local coffee packer dare to soil the immaculate image of the semi-divines .... it refers to the reproductive organ of non-males - to wrap it up politically correct! Just another idiot who started "thinking" I assume ????

I guess Thailand's Ministry of Culture has never heard of the Wikipedia - Chao Mae Tuptim shrine in Bangkok. 

 

Many bars with girls also have a phallus shrine somewhere, usually in the back so it is out of sight of the customers.  The idea is that rubbing the wooden or stone phallus while saying a prayer will bring good luck in the nights endeavors.

 

I also have many fond memories of watching Thai go-go dancers in a bar doing a good luck ceremony involving all the go-go girls lining up with their legs spread while the girl in front bends over and sends a wooden phallus sliding down the floor between her open legs, and of all the dancers lined up behind her.
