why do people all assume in life that because you have a Wife from Thailand and stay there alot that your Wife is a hooker and your a pervert?

Do not worry I got over it a longtime ago, but if I told my Wife half the reactions I get in everyday life, including work she would get an oozi and pop the mutha feckers...

Thailand is a huge place with lots of wonderful and beautiful people, ok it has its fair share of sex tourism but it aint all bars and disco lights....or is it in your world?

Personally I don't assume it. Of the limited number of expats I know, more than 50% of them have wives that didn't work at a beer bar previously. And the ones that did, I really couldn't give two hoots. If the couple are happy, I'm happy for them.

As for the thai people making assumptions.... I think they are in a position to judge their own, however, they can be down-right nasty in some instances I have observed. Like a bg sneering down her nose at another, saying just cos she's got a foreign boyfriend, she must of been a hooker. What a load of <deleted>!

It is usaully the people who have not stayed alongtime or people who went with a two week hardon to Pattaya that assume!

Lads in the pub would say "how much did she cost you" to which I would always reply "less than yours" and then laugh.

It is unfortunately bound to happen, most people who have ever been here have only been to the touristy places and people that haven't been here have only heard the stories from those that have or seen the stereotypical TV programmes.

Until you venture away from the bars (which I did a long time ago, still pop back for the odd visit tho' ) you never find out that the vast majority of Thailand is populated by non-scene workers.

your correct Thaddeus I was commenting about ppl in the UK. I do not condone sex tourism in any form as people have to empty there nuts somewhere preferably not near me....I just think that overall people should have more respect for the mass population of Thailand on a whole. By the way I am not wanting to go into the wrongs and rights of sex tourism, as in my position it doesnt affect me, however if it wasnt there it would be fine by me either way.

That's a pity. Sad to hear <deleted> like "She's oriental, she must be a hooker!" Glad you were able too laugh it off. I would have grabbed the guys nimrods & squeezed real hard. Talk about my gf that way sort of thing.

I never got too many comments other than those of jealous ex's when I lived with my wife (gf at the time) in Australia. Maybe they were there behind my back, but never to my face. Ignorance can be bliss.

I was only once married to an Asian and the Thais looked down on her because she was Cambodian, Christian and a refugee.

Most farangs just assumed she was Thai.

Here in Germany the attitude is much the same as CC describes in the UK so the ignorant gits here are probably the same types too.

Comfort yourself with this thought, underneath the contempt, very few of these people are as happy as you.

Strange thing, I know several Thai/farang couples here and it never crossed my mind even after all my experience of Thailand, that the women may have been BGs.

I only noticed that at least all these couples are happy with their choice.

Gotta admit I've seen that recently. Went to watch the new Bruce Willis movie Die Hard 4 (An absolute let down compared to first three IMO) & one of the lines in the movie was Bruce Willis's charachter commenting on the Bad Guys right hand women - calling her an "asian whore".

Now why would the script writers have included that comment? She doesn't <deleted> anybody, only plays with computers & kills people. Why is she an "asian whore"?

Thats my sentiments exactly on the topic SM. People just assume that shes an asian whore. Would they like it if I assumed their wife was a whore as many of the greeks think about English girls because they only see them getting pished and shagging on holiday in Greece?

CC these "people" are eveywhere. We live in the middle of Yankland where most people are afraid to travel to New York, in case they get in the way of low flying planes, and we still put up with crap. Even the monkeys who have never set foot in Asia, but have watched some show and then walk into the restaurant where my wife works and make jokes about giving her money for service. Trust me, she doesn't let me get anywhere near that place for fear of having to bail me out of jail.

We just have to breathe and know that not everyone is such a butthole picking caveman and that this crap will pass, just short little moments that never last longer than it takes to get away from these "people".

It really bothers me to hear all your bad stories. It is a great pity that Thailand has a negative rep with many uneducated people. All the things Thai and Asian people have taught me, from respect and honour to simple things like sharpening a knife on a ceramic plate bottom or planting and propagating plants. I still use their wisdom. I really regret that racism still rears its ugly head. I think every high school grad should be forced to spend a year overseas learning, living and working in another culture. Even here in Van, I find racism flying from all sides. Yet, I go to the veg market and a burka-clad lady and I can share a laugh when we both grab the same tomato or whatever. I heard a Mandarin speaker in a dress shop the other day and she was asking for a bigger size. I jturned around when the clerk started shouting "what do you want?" in English at her. I ttold the clerk that shouting would not help and translated for the lady. And then I stayed for a few mos to help her on her way. And my Mandarin is very rusty. But everyone was happy. I abhor people with preconceived ideas about other folks. Wanklettes.

I see racism touches alot of people lives. Maybe one day people will realise, I wont hold my breath. Good to know that people out there still have good values and beliefs,

Rascism isn't going away when it, together with religion, is the single most powerfull tools to control people and be able to wage war on pathetic grounds.
