webfact
Heightened safety measures are set to be implemented by the Thai government in a bid to restore the confidence of foreign tourists, following the recent shooting incident at Siam Paragon. Two foreigners, one from China and the other from Myanmar, lost their lives in the incident which also left five others injured, including another Chinese national, a person from Laos, and three Thai citizens. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, in response to questions from the Chinese media, stated that Chinese visitors are always welcome in Thailand and reassured that the government is committed to stepping up security measures to avert future occurrences. As part of the overall security measures, the Thai government will tighten gun control laws to restrict easy access to firearms. The prime minister provided these reassurances while responding to media enquiries at the 2nd Thailand Climate Action Conference (TCAC), taking place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, where he presided over the opening ceremony. The Situation Command Centre (SCC), a body formed in the wake of the shooting, held a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offering updates on the ongoing investigations as well as information about financial support for the victims. Deputy Foreign Minister, Jakkapong Sangmanee, expressed the government’s commitment to securing justice for those affected by the shooting. by Mitch Connor Picture courtesy of Matichon Full story: The Thaiger 2023-10-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post spidermike007
If the goons are serious about real change, they would have to go after the army officials, soldiers and cops who supply these guns to the market. Stop the nonsense and lock them up. 2
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
Should take them a week, or two at most, before anything they're claiming to have done, or promising to do, will have been long forgotten.... And things will be back to the way they were before, and always have been here. 2

Karma80
A trip to Central in Phuket today and all the entrances have a guard and walk through metal detector. I mean, I don't mind that at all, but I have never feared for gun violence in Thailand.

petedk
My condolences to the victims. ONE Chinese lady is killed and security is beefed up all over Bangkok and other parts of the country. 300+ people (including foreigners) are killed on the roads every day. What is done about that? No need to answer. We all know.
Schnicnac
Good, that's a step into the right direction. Too many gun-related incidents and shootings here especially in recent years. No need for private citizens to have access to guns. From kindergartens to shopping malls to love/jealousy/rage/face/criminal gang triggered gun plays. Time to clean this all up, including carrying of guns by off duty officers. Other neighboring countries can do that as well. Can't recall a kindergarten or mall shooting in Malaysia for example.
