Australian Energy Market Operator chief Daniel Westerman says emergency rooftop solar switch-off mechanisms must be set up across the national electricity market, to better control “more than seven Eraring power stations” worth of consumer installed PV.

Although I understand the need to balance the grid, the wingnut conspiracy theorist in me (along with recent events) has me questioning whether they'll be turning off your air conditioner if you do anything the gub'ment doesn't like.

An intelligent approach to this problem would be dynamic pricing that reflect electricity wholesale prices. So at times of excess supply, electricity prices go negative and EVs start charging for free, but any exports incur negative payments.

 

Such a system would make home batteries much more financially attractive.

To a certain extent this is already happening with electricity tariffs like Octopus Flux in the UK.

Must admit do not have any idea what language this is but even Google seems to be at a loss.  US trying to understand UK talking Oz and it flew over this cuckoo's nest without leaving a clue.
