Tens of thousands rally around the world in support of Israel and Palestinians

Tens of thousands of protesters rallied across the Middle East and in parts of Asia, Europe and the United States in support of Palestinians and condemnation of Israel as it intensified its strikes on Gaza in retaliation for Hamas attacks a week ago.

Elsewhere, Jewish communities in the US, France and other countries held rallies on Friday in solidarity with Israel after the Hamas attack from Gaza, the deadliest killing spree against Israeli civilians in the country’s 75-year history.

There has been strong support and sympathy for Israel from western governments and many citizens over the Hamas attacks, but the Israeli response has also prompted anger, particularly in Arab and Muslim countries.

In Turkey, crowds gathered outside mosques chanting against Israel and saluting Hamas. In the south-eastern city of Diyarbakir, 46-year-old business owner Mikail Bakan said: “All the Muslim world needs to be one against Israel.”

In Nablus, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, youths set fires on the streets and clashed with the Israeli military.

A huge Palestinian flag was passed overhead at a protest in Rome, and demonstrations took place in other European cities including in Braband in Denmark and in Berlin, where some protesters were detained by police.

Germany and France had banned pro-Palestinian demonstrations and several western countries said they had stepped up security at synagogues and Jewish schools fearing that protests could lead to violence.

Hamas, which rules Gaza, urged Palestinians to rise up in protest against Israel’s bombardment of the blockaded enclave, calling on them to march on al-Aqsa mosque.

Good to see not everyone has fallen for the propaganda that all Gazans are Hamas and deserve to die.

Would like to see where you got that propaganda statement from or is it just your opinion

IMO. They are nitwits. And scum.

But I will add this, though - first, their numbers are relatively small and in this instance they are definitely outliers. On the other hand, it demonstrated that one side can have differing voices. Maybe when you'll find similar Muslim, Palestinian groups protesting against Hamas's attack, it would be interesting.

Seem like a real group of winners.

Lovely they have a "Keffiyeh Thursday" to show solidarity. I am waiting to hear when the Muslim Students Association will join in with a "Yamulka Monday" to show their support for a two state solution...

The attack on a hospital is galvanizing opinion against israel. Even the Arab ambassadors to the UN are united in their condemnation of israel, and had a joint news conference to demand a ceasefire.

Is this a turning point in the conflict where the non US western world is forced by popular revulsion to turn away from unconditional support of israel? I certainly hope so.

At least 500 people have been killed in an Israeli air raid on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities in the besieged territory.

I've been watching a Jewish protest in the US Capitol demanding a ceasefire, on Al Jazeera.

The irony is wonderful.

Meanwhile the US has vetoed ( the only one to vote against ) the latest UN security council resolution.

The US officially has still not called for a ceasefire or even restraint by israel.

Just hearing that humanitarian aid is going to be allowed into Gaza through the Egyptian controlled crossing, but ONLY 20 trucks. That isn't enough for one day! Hundreds of trucks are waiting in Egypt.

Shame on them.
