I cannot state that I have found any issue with the quality of potatoes. Though I have a lot of choice. Either way, expect a raised eyebrow every now and again, if you don't make an effort 😊

Chips are actually my last choice for a serving of potatoes. First would probably be baked potato, maybe even twice baked version, but if you scrub a potato here too hard, you won't have any skin 🙄

Why it's usually mashed or home fries, if using fresh potatoes.

My normal supplier of potatoes is Macro, there are a few varieties available at present, mainly "new" rather than "old", I prefer old for chips, mash and roasts, the new type are ok for chips, roasts but not mashed, but great for potato salad, and plain boiled.

We also have a market twice a week where you can get a small net of more local spuds.

No matter what the fish n'chips afficionados claim, nothing better then freshly cooked indian food in a reliable and reasonably priced restaurant of course.

Hmmmm. fresh fish or rotten meat masked in curry.

I don't actually ever peel potatoes. Soak them in a solution of bicarb for a while and then wash and rinse under the tap, perhaps using kitchen towel.

Key Nutrients in Potato Skins

  • Fiber: Over half of a potato's total fiber is located in or immediately under the skin.

  • Potassium: Crucial for heart health, potassium is highly concentrated in the skin.

  • Vitamin C & B Vitamins: The skin offers a concentrated source of Vitamin C and Vitamin B6.

  • Iron & Calcium: Potato skins contain up to 17 times more iron and 7 times more calcium than the inner flesh.

  • Antioxidants: Skins are rich in phenolic acids and antioxidants that protect cellular health.

Why Keep the Skin On?

  • Prevents Nutrient Loss: Peeling removes valuable fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

  • Better Texture/Flavor: Baking or boiling with the skin on retains moisture and keeps nutrients from leaching out, notes Healthline.

  • Heart and Bone Health: The high mineral content, including iron and magnesium, helps support blood pressure regulation and bone strength, says Particularly Good Potatoes.

Here's our only selection of potatoes, and also Makro. There's a 'royal project' packs of, and simply look cleaner, and not worth 33% more price.

Actually had a hard time picking just 750gr out. Really beat up, and damn. Don't know why they spray water on them. Maybe has a preservative in it. They've actually gotten better with inventory control. Before it was, with or without eyes cheesy

They do offer a couple versions of sweet potatoes, but they always look terrible. Potatoes are their only weak area, as everything else, fruit & veggies are good.

@IsmeUno also eat the skins, what little skin is on them.

Yes, it can be a bit of a lottery, luckily I have a couple of chances to get to Macro each week, so if no joy one day chances are OK next visit, I always avoid weekends and Mondays.

I see what you mean.

I'm lucky enough to have a big fresh market nearby.

obviously you do not have the means to go to a decent restaurant if you have such experience ? Avoid going to the 20 THB food court joints if you wish to avoid stale food. Also if you are rude with the staff, no doubt they will go out of their way to serve stale food maybe ? Thank you.

Indians and their food are rancid and as such have zero desire go within smelling distance of either.

Chicken Japanese Curry (thanks S&B), haven't made that in a while

Gravy looks silky smooth. I've thought about that a few times, but have always been put off by the ingredient list.

Big C actually had a similar pack heavily discounted to under 40 baht, but I still couldn't convince myself to take it.

Nice for a change, and tasty enough. I usually add a bit of Cayenne pepper. Bought 1 kg pack, long time ago, and still have 4 cubes left in freezer.

I had one perhaps more than ten years ago, at Oishi I think. Honestly didn't buy them as I only wanted to try it once and didn't want that big a packet taking up space in the fridge. If you were a neighbour, I'd pop around for a cube 😊

Get the 84 baht pack, as you need half of, to make a batch. Not only did I get the 1kg pack, but it was 2 for 1. Sales always hook me in 🙄

So good for 20 batches of curry. Gave quite a bit away.

I don't do batches nor frozen food in general. Usually enough for two meals at a time. Always been a bit fussy for when it comes to food. Not in an elitist way, it just has to fall within certain boundaries.

I have no problem with criticising my own efforts if something is not up to scratch.

Quite simple recipe ..

I love Japanese Curries & buy loads of the middle 2 boxes when we go to Makro, 1/2 the price of anywhere else so I typically stock up with 9-10 boxes use 2 cubes for 1 meal so they only last me a month or 2...

Also add some of this stuff in to give it a bit of a kick...

I Love this taste of this stuff, if I could drink it neat I probably would.
