Don't claim to save the world. No one can.   Save your world, by being civil and nice. Not sayin here to be nice to nice and friendly people,  because that is obviously easy and comes automa

What happened in recent days that hasn't been happening all along human history, at much larger scale at times?

PS: I do not believe that any AI is ready to replace humanity in the near future.

AI will probably not eliminate humans unless the military is stupid enough to make autonomous killing machines.

What AI will do is eliminate manual jobs throwing billions onto hard times.

Humans are indeed vile, but being unable to change humanity, I can only hope that the day I escape from this horrid world is not too far away.

First of all humanity is a BS socialist concept. It doesn't exist.

Now what we are witnessing is the end of western hegemony on the world.

When it's all over, it's gonna be a very different world out there...

the world is duality.

it's not categorically bleak and horrid.

although i understand your frustrations.

The 'true nature of humanity' has always been there. Today is no different; it only seems different because the media keeps it in your face.

Since Oldavai Gorge it's always been 'my gene pool is better than your gene pool'. We're driven by our biology, or for the religious out there, we're 'made in god's image', and it's the Old Testament god, who is as evil and vindictive as the worst of us.

At any point in history, save for all-too brief periods of peace, or at minimum slaughter that occurred away from cameras, humans have been slaughtering other humans for not being 'one of us'.

From slavery to the Sea Peoples to Alexander to the Visigoths to the Vandals to the Vikings to Genghis Khan to Tamerlane to the 'colonization' of the Americas to Napoleon to Australia to Colonialism and Imperialism to the Inquisitions to the Armenian Genocide to WWI to Stalin to WWII to the Holocaust to the Cultural Revolution to Kampuchea to Vietnam to Lebanon to Yugoslavia to Rwanda to Iraq to Ukraine to Gaza-Israel...this is what humans do and have always done.

We're animals who behave like animals, with pack leaders fighting for authority or pack vs pack or clan vs clan. We all have the potential for violence, either when threatened, or when our gene pool is threatened, or even when we feel slighted or disrespected.

You feel saddened because you were reminded of what we have always been.....and always will be.

You think you take the high road because you have been able to control yourself, but only because you've avoided the horrors or slights that would bring out the real 'humanity' in you.

Even Gandhi approved of violence during the worst of Partition.

That sums it up nicely. The veneer of civilisation is more fragile than a spiders web.

Guys when stone age people met another group of stone age people one of 3 things happened ,,

1... They ignored each other ,,,
2... they got together in peace for mutual benefit
3...They fought and one side won and The men were killed and the women and kids assimilated if they wanted a life .

Thats it ! and Humans have not evolved beyond that stage in reality ,, our Knowledge and tech has evolved but we have not , and diplomatic compromises , rules of war, humanitarian caring sharing bleating ,only make things worse in the long term because there is NO RESULT or END LINE just more bleeding sores that fester forever ,, until people realise we are just clever animals

Humans are so <deleted> up and ignorant

In my view, this is such an accurate description of human nature that I think this analisys should be accessible to more readers than only readers of ASEAN Now.

And Osho. Not that I agree with everything he says, but he's probably right here.

I grew up naively believing that humans were mostly good, but have come to realise that most, IMO, are bad, and in some cases vile.

Seems to me that the bad guys are winning.

WOW! You and I, at least on this subject, are firmly on the same page.

People forget, or do not want to acknowledge, that we are just animals with a bigger brain, and still governed by our genes, which are still the same as when we lived in caves and thought thunder was the gods.

Somehow though .. for the average spud .. life gets better and easier than ever before.. and though it is awful seeing the things going on in the world.. the mainstream media .. which so many here vilify .. get to shine a light on what's going on and make it less bad than it might have been .. think of the effect the media had in Vietnam .. Life is pretty good for most .. even for curmudgeons on this site...

It's not a good idea to formulate your opinions about the world based solely on dramatic current mainstream media events.
